  1. 1. Influence of paper properties and polymer coatings on barrier properties of greaseproof paper

    Författare :Henrik Kjellgren; Gunnar Engström; Lars Järnström; Lennart Stolpe; Torbjörn Helle; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Greaseproof paper; Barrier properties; Gas barrier; Paper properties; Coatings; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Greaseproof paper has a dense structure and therefore provides a natural barrier against materials like fat and oils. The barrier is obtained by extensive refining of the pulp. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Barrier Properties of greaseproof paper

    Författare :Henrik Kjellgren; Gunnar Engström; Lennart Stolpe; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Greaseproof papers; Air permeance; Coatings; Chitosan; Oxygen Barrier properties; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The barrier properties of greaseproof paper are achieved by extensive beating of the fibres. This treatment results in high costs for energy, both as beating energy and drying energy. A full-scale trial has been performed to investigate the role of the pulp with respect to energy demand and the barrier properties of the final papers. LÄS MER

    Författare :Mikael Ankerfors; Lars Wågberg; Minna Hakkarainen; Paul Gatenholm; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfibrillated cellulose; microfibrillar cellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose nanofibrillar cellulose; nanocellulose; MFC; NFC; production techniques; energy efficient; gel properties; films; enzymes; carboxymethylation; carboxymethyl cellulose; CMC; mechanical properties; oxygen barrier; homogenization;

    Sammanfattning : This work describes three alternative processes for producing microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in which pulp fibres are first pre-treated and then homogenized using a high-pressure homogenizer. In one process, fibre cell wall delamination was facilitated with a combined enzymatic and mechanical pre-treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of plasticizing and crosslinking on the mechanical and barrier properties of coatings based on blends of starch and poly(vinyl alcohol)

    Författare :Asif Javed; Lars Järnström; Henrik Ullsten; Peter Rättö; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Citric acid; Glycerol; Polyethylene glycol; Barrier properties; Starch; Mechanical properties; Polyvinyl alcohol; Adhesion; Cross linking; Extrusion coating; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the last decades, intensive research has been carried out in order to replace oil-based polymers with bio-based polymers due to growing environmental concerns. So far, most of the barrier materials used in food packaging are petroleum-based materials. LÄS MER
