6. Complexity and Change in a Simple Food Web : Studies in the Baltic Sea (FAO Area 27.IIId)
Sammanfattning : An influence at one trophic level can result in dynamic impacts also on other components of a food web. These dynamics are known as trophic cascades, and can be both top-down and bottom-up. After a near-collapse of the Baltic cod Gadus morhua stock in the 1980s, its main prey sprat Sprattus sprattus increased dramatically. LÄS MER

8. QSBMR Quantitative Structure Biomagnification Relationships : Studies Regarding Persistent Environmental Pollutants in the Baltic Sea Biota
Sammanfattning : I have studied persistent environmental pollutants in herring (Clupea harengus), in adult guillemot (Uria aalge) and in guillemot eggs from the Baltic Sea. The studied contaminants were organochlorines (OCs); dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), and brominated flame retardants (BFRs); polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). 9. Temporal and spatial trends of organohalogens in guillemot (Uria aalge) from North Western Europe
Sammanfattning : The Arctic and sub-Arctic region of the North Atlantic is a remote area, also in relations to environmental contaminants, such as POPs, BFRs and last but not least, PFCs. Both the BFRs and PFCs are considered emerging pollutants of significant environmental concern. LÄS MER
10. Determination of some polybrominated flame retardants in biota, sediment and sewage sludge
Sammanfattning : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are mainly used in different polymers, and can be released to the environment during industrial processes, during the entire life-time of the flame-retarded product and after disposal. The aim of the present study was to gain knowledge about occurrence and concentrations of some BFRs in the environment, to search for sources for these chemicals and to investigate changes in concentrations over time.
