16. Poly-and oligothiophenes : Optical probes for multimodal fluorescent assessment of biological processes
Sammanfattning : One interesting class of molecules in the research field of imaging biological processes is luminescent conjugated polythiophenes, LCPs. These fluorescent probes have a flexible backbone consisting of repetitive thiophene units. LÄS MER
17. Quaternized fluorene-based hydroxide exchange membranes and polymers: design, synthesis, and characterization
Sammanfattning : In modern society, the consumption of fossil fuels has been increasing drastically, leading to significant emissions of carbondioxide (CO2), air pollution, global warming, and political and economic imbalances. This has increased the interest inrenewable and sustainable energy sources such as wind- and hydropower, solar energy, and in energy conversion by fuel celltechnology, and water electrolyses. LÄS MER
18. Poly(phenylene oxide)s functionalized with cationic side chains: design, synthesis and properties as anion exchange membranes
Sammanfattning : Anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) are considered as one of the most important next-generation energy conversion technologies. AEMFCs convert chemical energy into useful electrical energy and have great potential forachieving high conversion efficiencies. LÄS MER
19. Structural Studies of O-Polysaccharides from Diarrhoeal Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the structural analysis of O-polysaccharides from the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli that is a diarrhoeal pathogen. The Escherichia coli serotypes investigated were O178, O171, O166 and O128. The methods used in these studies were nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and component analysis. LÄS MER
20. Fluorescent thiophene-based ligands for detection and characterization of disease-associated protein aggregates
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the unique optical properties of fluorescent ligands termed luminescent conjugated oligothiophenes (LCOs) have been used to study a variety of protein aggregates associated with human protein misfolding disease. This heterogeneous group of diseases contains well known and fatal members such as Alzheimer´s and Huntington´s disease and the development of sensitive tools for the detection and characterization of protein aggregates is crucial for unravelling the complexity of these pathologies.
