1. Adaptive Modulation and Coding in Wireless Communications with Feedback
Sammanfattning : We study link adaptation techniques which are suitable for the future packet-based wireless communication systems, where in particular, flat Rayleigh fading channels are assumed. Firstly, an adaptive coding scheme based on Rate Compatible Convolutional (RCC) codes is proposed. LÄS MER
2. Konturer av ett kvinnligt fält : Om missbrukande kvinnors möten i familjeliv och behandling
Sammanfattning : The aim of the dissertation is to describe the conditions under which substance abusing women live with regard to their families, the substance abuse and treatment. The interaction between the substance abusing women and the institutional expectations is analysed from gender and class perspective. LÄS MER
3. Calculations of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Ionic Crystal Surfaces and Fullerenes
Sammanfattning : Electronic and optical properties of ionic crystal surfaces and fullerenes have been studied by means of cluster calculations based on the Local Density Approximation (LDA) method using a numerical LCAO approach. The calculations for the bulk, stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric (111) surfaces of the divalent ionic crystals, CaF2 and BaF2, were based on the construction of an appropriate cluster of Ba++/Ca++ and F- ions representing a local environment of the specific system. 4. X-ray scattering and spectroscopy of supercooled water and ice
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents experimental studies of water and ice at near-atmospheric pressures using intense x-rays only accessible at synchrotrons and free-electron lasers. In particular, it focuses on the deeply supercooled, metastable state and its implications on ice nucleation. LÄS MER
5. Key Components for High Tc SQUID Magnetometers
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of key components for superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometers in the high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO). Such magnetometers are made for liquid nitrogen temperature operation, as opposed to low Tc devices that are confined to liquid helium. LÄS MER
