  1. 1. Imaging and Quantification of Brain Serotonergic Activity using PET

    Författare :Pinelopi Lundquist; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Per Hartvig; Gunnar Blomquist; Paul Cumming; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Brain serotonin; Neurotransmitter release; Neurotransmitter synthesis; Positron emission tomography; Tracer validation; Tracer modelling; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the potential of using positron emission tomography (PET) to study the biosynthesis and release of serotonin (5HT) at the brain serotonergic neuron. As PET requires probe compounds with specific attributes to enable imaging and quantification of biological processes, emphasis was placed on the evaluation of these attributes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neuromolecular and behavioural profile of teleosts : - effects of boldness, agonistic behaviour and reproductive status

    Författare :Arshi Mustafa; Svante Winberg; Per Erik Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Histamine receptor 1 hrh1 ; histamine receptor 2 hrh2 ; histamine receptor 3 hrh3 ; boldness; personality; aggression; Histaminergic activity; Serotonergic activty 5-HIAA 5-HT ; Dopaminergic activty DOPAC DA ; spiegeldanio spd ; wild caught zebrafish; AB zebrafish; behaviour; brain.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates if boldness is reflected in the function of brain histaminergic system in zebrafish (Danio rerio). Moreover, behavioural differences in AB line, spiegeldanio (spd) line and wild caught strain of zebrafish have also been explored apart from the winner-loser effect in AB and spd fish. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dietary L-Tryptophan Suppresses Aggression and Stress Responsiveness in Juvenile Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) : The Role of Brain Serotonin and Plasma Melatonin

    Författare :Olivier Lepage; Svante Winberg; József Haller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; serotonin; brain; fish; rainbow trout; Oncorhynchus mykiss; feed; stress; cortisol; melatonin; behaviour; aggression; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed L-tryptophan (TRP) supplemented feed for 7 days show a suppression of aggressive behaviour along with a reduction in post-stress plasma cortisol levels. However, 3 days of elevated dietary TRP does not have any effects on either aggressive behaviour or post-stress plasma cortisol levels. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Behavioural and Neuroendocrine Effects of Stress in Salmonid Fish

    Författare :Øyvind Øverli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Aggression; Behaviour; Brain; Coping; Cortisol; Dominance; Dopamine; Feeding; Hierarchy; Norepinephrine; Responsiveness; Serotonin; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stress can affect several behavioural patterns, such as food intake and the general activity level of an animal. The central monoamine neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine are important in the mediation of both behavioural and neuroendocrine stress effects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Relation between Serotonergic Biomarkers and Behaviour : – studies on human primates, non-human primates and transgenic mice

    Författare :Hanna-Linn Wargelius; Dan Larhammar; Lars Oreland; Claudia Fahlke; Elias Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Serotonin; MAO-A; 5-HTT; MAO-B; alcohol; ADHD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: The serotonergic system is involved in the modulation of emotion and plays an important role for personality and vulnerability for psychiatric disorders. In the papers included in this thesis, we investigate three biological factors that have been studied in relation to psychiatric symptoms: Platelet monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity, and variations in the MAO-A and the serotonin transporter (5HTT) genes.
