  1. 1. Antioxidant-Impregnated Polymers / Antioxidant Ability and Interactions with Food

    Författare :Carolina Wessling; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Food and drink technology; shelf-life; interactions; packaging; polymers; BHT; antioxidants; a-tocopherol; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between antioxidant-impregnated low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP), and oxygen-sensitive foods have been investigated. BHT and a-tocopherol are two antioxidants commonly used in both foods and polymers. In general, BHT was rapidly lost from LDPE film in contact with various foodstuffs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Variability of blood pressure and heart rate in borderline and mild hypertension : With special reference to spectral analysis

    Författare :Reijo Takalo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; hypertension; blood pressure; ambulatory monitoring; power spectrum analysis; pulsecontour method; systemic hemodynamics; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study whether blood pressure (BP) or heart rate (HR) variability in borderline (BHT) and hypertensive (HT) subjects differs from that in normotensive (NT) subjects, and whether indices for BP and HR variability can be used in risk stratification for future hypertension. The study groups consisted of 35 NT, 29 BHT, and 34 HT middle-aged men. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cholesterolinduced changes in macro- and microvessels in rabbits : effects of antioxidants

    Författare :Anna Freyschuss; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholesterol; rabbits; oxidative; antioxidants; vessels; microcirculation;

    Sammanfattning : A hyperlipidemic state induced by cholesterol feeding results in changes in both the structure and function of macro- and microvessels in rabbits. It has been proposed that oxidative modification of lipoproteins might be an important pathophysiological mechanism explaining these effects of hyperlipidemia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The human diving response : effects of temperature and training

    Författare :Erika Schagatay; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Djurfysiologi; pig; human; training; breath-holding time; breaking point; cold-receptors; arterial blood; vasoconstriction; bradycardia; diving reflex; diving response; Breath-hold diving; Animal physiology; simulated diving; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; Sports; Idrott; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to elucidate the cardiovascular response associated with breath-hold diving, especially the effects of temperature in its elicitation and the effects of different types of training on the human diving response (DR) and breath-holding time (BHT), and to evaluate the human DR in a mammalian perspective. A model for simulated diving by apnea and facial immersion in cold water was developed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of embryonic mitochondria in the generation of congenital malformations in diabetic pregnancy

    Författare :Xiaolin Yang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; embryo; diabetic pregnancy; congenital malformation; mitochondria; high-amplitudemitochondrial swelling; oxygen uptake; glucose utilization; Crabtree effect; superoxide generation; antioxidant; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetic pregnancy is associated with an increased incidence of congenital malformations. The teratologicalmechanism may be related to an alteration of embryonic organogenesis by maternal metabolic derangementsduring early gestation. LÄS MER
