1. Stochastic analysis of fluid flow and tracer pathways in crystalline fracture networks
Sammanfattning : Understanding groundwater flow systems and how these control transport is an essential part in assessing the suitability of subsurface environments as hosts for storage of toxic waste. Therefore it is important to be able to integrate knowledge obtained from field characterisation of the subsurface with methods which can be used to evaluate and predict possible impact on surrounding environments. 2. Topics in Computational Algebraic Geometry and Deformation Quantization
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two parts, a first part on computations in algebraic geometry, and a second part on deformation quantization. More specifically, it is a collection of four papers. In the papers I, II and III, we present algorithms and an implementation for the computation of degrees of characteristic classes in algebraic geometry. LÄS MER
3. Asymptotics of Eigenpolynomials of Exactly-Solvable Operators
Sammanfattning : The main topic of this doctoral thesis is asymptotic properties of zeros in polynomial families arising as eigenfunctions to exactly-solvable differential operators. The study was initially inspired by a number of striking results from computer experiments performed by G. Masson and B. Shapiro for a more restrictive class of operators. LÄS MER
4. Towards Plane Hurwitz Numbers
Sammanfattning : The main objects of this thesis are branched coverings obtained as projection from a point in P^2. Our general goal is to understand how a given meromorphic function f: X -> P^1 can be induced from a composition X --> C -> P^1, where C is a plane curve in P^2 which is birationally equivalent to the smooth curve X. 5. On Hypersurface Coamoebas and Integral Representations of A-Hypergeometric Functions
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with coamoebas and their connection to integral representations A-hypergeometric functions. In the first part, we introduce the lopsidedness criterion for coamoebas, and define the lopsided coamoeba. We show that the lopsided coamoeba comes naturally equipped with an order map. LÄS MER
