  1. 11. T cell mediated immunity in malaria and mycobacterial infection : a protective role for gd+ T cells

    Författare :Shewangizaw Worku; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; Plasmodium. vivax; Mycobacteria; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; BCG; T lymphocytes; T cell receptor; [gamma][delta] T cells; [alpha][beta] T cells;

    Sammanfattning : T cell mediated immunity is essential against intracellular infections. Studies of cell mediated immunity are important for the optimal design and development of effective vaccines. Identifying correlates of protective immunity will also enable measurement of vaccine efficiency. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Dendritic cell migration to draining lymph node and T-cell priming to Bacille Calmette-Guérin

    Författare :Vishnu Priya Bollampalli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DCs) are unique antigen presenting cells that bridge innate and adaptive immunity. DCs sense invading microbes, sample antigen and migrate to the draining lymph node (DLN) where they prime T cells to the microbe. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Novel immunization strategies and interethnic differences in response to malaria infection

    Författare :Charles Arama; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Kai Matuschewski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; Immunization; Ethnic groups; vaccines; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : A better understanding of the role of antigen-presenting cells (APCs) in host resistance to malaria is essential to unravel the complex interactions between the host and the parasite. This would improve the design of malaria vaccines. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Defining the role of migratory dendritic cells in priming T cells to mycobacteria

    Författare :Veronika Krmeská; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DCs) are professional antigen-presenting cells that bridge innate and adaptive immunity by priming T cells. DCs residing at body surfaces such as skin sense invading microbes and respond by internalizing the microbe at the site of infection and subsequently migrating to the draining lymph node (dLN) where they present microbial antigen and other requisite signals to T cells that arm the T cells to fight-off the infection. 5. 15. Diagnostic biomarkers and improved vaccination against mycobacterial infection

    Författare :Muhammad Jubayer Rahman; Carmen Fernandez; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the world’s most serious infectious diseases. It is estimated that a third of the world’s population is latently infected and 8 million new cases are recorded each year. LÄS MER
