1. Studies of carbon nanomaterials based on fullerenes and carbon nanotubes
Sammanfattning : Materials based on fullerenes and carbon nanotubes are very much different from most “traditional” materials, primarily because they are built from nanosized molecules with highly symmetry-dependent properties. Being the subject of a very active research field over the last twenty years, carbon nanostructures proved to be indeed extraordinary. LÄS MER
2. New Fullerene Materials Obtained in Solution and by High Pressure High Temperature Treatment
Sammanfattning : Crystallization of C60 and C70 from organic solution often leads to the formation of new solvates and other fullerene compounds. In the present thesis, a number of such solvates were obtained and their phase transitions studied using in situ "in solution" techniques. LÄS MER
3. Aspects of Heat Flow in Laser Processing of Metals
Sammanfattning : Since the laser was invented in 1960, its use in manufacturing industry has been growing rapidly. Laser processing of metals is based on the flow of heat that is generated by the absorbed laser beam. LÄS MER
4. Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy : clinical, genetic, clinical pharmacological, and neurophysiological studies
Sammanfattning : Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) has been considered to be a discrete phenotype. Evidence from segregation analysis and twin studies suggest that JME is a genetically determined disease, and two previous linkage studies of separately ascertained kindreds have suggested that a JME locus, EJM 1, resides on chromosome 6p close to the HLA region. 5. Power generation choice in the presence of environmental externalities
Sammanfattning : This dissertation consists of an introductory part and six self-contained papers, all related to the issue of power generation choice in the presence of environmental externalities. Paper 1 provides a critical survey of a large number of electricity externality studies carried out during the last decades, and discusses a number of conceptual, policy-related and, in some cases, unresolved questions in the economic valuation of electricity externalities.
