6. Switching ON Fetal B Lymphopoiesis
Sammanfattning : B-1a cells are innate-like lymphocytes that develop primarily during fetal and neonatal life, whereas adult bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) preferentially give rise to follicular B-2 cells. Functioning at the interface of the innate and adaptive immune systems, B-1a cells provide a non-redundant first line of defense prior to the temporally delayed establishment of a B-2 cell response. 7. Primary immunodeficiency in southern Sweden. Strategies for diagnosis and clinical management
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this PhD project was to gain insight into the incidence of primary immunodeficiency (PID) in southern Sweden and to optimize diagnostic and treatment measures for these patients. We estimated the occurrence rate of PID in the pediatric population of southern Sweden during a period of 4 years and described the demographic, clinical and immunological characteristics of the identified cases. 8. Activation, adhesion and motility of B lymphocytes in health and disease
Sammanfattning : B cells can be activated by T cell-dependent stimuli, such as CD40 ligation and cytokines, which induce extensive proliferation, class switch recombination and somatic hypermutation.Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) can also induce B cell activation by mimicking T cell help through its main oncoprotein, latent membrane protein 1 (LMP-1). 9. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth
Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER
10. Defining the role of CD47 and SIRPα in murine B cell homeostasis
Sammanfattning : B cell development is a highly organized process, which commences in the fetal liver during embryogenesis and in the bone marrow (BM) after birth. Surface IgM+ immature B cells emigrate from the BM via the blood stream to the spleen and finally differentiate into conventional mature follicular B (FoB) cells and marginal zone (MZ) B cells.
