  1. 16. Genetic and immunological control of human myasthenia gravis

    Författare :Xiaoyan Zhao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myasthenia Gravis MG ; beta2-adrenergic receptor beta2-AR ; CCR2; CCR5; cytolytic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 CTLA-4 ; OX40;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a classical autoimmune disease characterized by muscle weakness due to an immune attack against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) on the post-synaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction. Because of the involvement of multiple factors in the disease, the overall aims of this thesis were to uncover the regulation of candidate genes and the possible cellular mechanisms involved in the immuno-regulation of human MG. 2. 17. Calcium regulation and functions of basic Helix-Loop-Helix transcription factors

    Författare :Juha Saarikettu; Thomas Grundström; Dan Holmberg; Mikael Sigvardsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; calcium; calmodulin; calretinin; transcription; bHLH; E-protein; E2-2; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The members of the ubiquitously expressed E-protein subfamily of basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH) transcription factors, E12/E47, SEF2-1 and HEB, have important roles as regulators of gene expression in various differentiation processes, including lymphocyte development and myogenesis. In myogenesis, E-proteins are proposed to function as obligate heterodimer partners for members of the MyoD family of muscle-specific bHLH transcription factors. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Human spinal cord models for development of spinal cord injury repair strategies

    Författare :Chenhong Lin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : There is still no available cure for human spinal cord injury (SCI). After a SCI, neural cell loss, excitotoxicity, neuroinflammation, astrocytic and oligodendrocytic derived inhibiting factors contribute to a non-permissive spinal cord environment hindering neuroregeneration with little, if any, endogeneous functional improvement. 4. 19. Immunogenicity of and apoptosis modulation by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent membrane protein-1 (LMP1) : implications for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

    Författare :Xiangning Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human herpesvirus which infects more than 90% of individuals in the population, and has been shown to be associated with a variety of human tumors. The viral genome encodes a number of transforming proteins which enable the virus to efficiently immortalize B lymphocyte and also transform cells of other types. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Experimental islet transplantation

    Författare :Randa A Hadi Gadalla Diab; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic islet transplantation is a promising treatment modality for patients with insulin- dependent diabetes. Besides whole pancreas transplantation, it is the only treatment that can make patients normoglycemic without risking episodes of hypoglycemia. LÄS MER
