  1. 1. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins

    Författare :Karol Axcrona; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear transport; bacterial Ig-binding proteins; CD40L promoter; CD21; Ig; B lymphocyte activation in vitro; CD40; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. T-cells in COPD to help or harm? A study of T-cells in COPD patients and related aspects of T-cell function in vitro

    Författare :Pernilla Glader; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; Immunologi; serologi; T-cell; inflammation; mucosal immunology; transplantation; serology; Immunology; lymphocyte; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD, is manifested by chronic airflow limitation due to inflammation and tissue destruction in the lungs. COPD is caused primarily by smoking and with increasing cigarette consumption in the world, the prevalence for COPD will most probably increase in the future. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of lymphocyte activation and apoptosis in the immune response in multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Andreia Ferreira de Castro Gomes; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system (CNS) white matter. The patients usually develop the first symptoms between 20 and 40 years of age, translating into a huge social and economical impact in the western countries, where NIS has a high prevalence. 4. 4. Regulation of immunity in Multiple Sclerosis : CD4+ T cells and the influence of natalizumab

    Författare :Måns Edström; Jan Ernerudh; Maria Jenmalm; Charlotte Dahle; Finn Sellebjerg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease targeting the central nervous system (CNS) and the most common neurological cause of disability in young adults. In most cases, the disease course is characterised by the cycling of relapses and remissions, so called relapsing-remitting MS (RR-MS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immune cells in pregnant uterine mucosa : functional properties, cellular composition and tissue organization

    Författare :Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Sten Hammarström; Rolf Kiessling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologically privileged site; TCR γδ cells; CD56 cells; large granular lymphocytes; immunosuppression; cytokine; interleukin; lymphoid cell cluster; intraepithelial lymphocytes; glandular epithelium; immuno electron microscopy; pregnancy; decidua; lactoferrin; lactoferrin receptor; colostrum;

    Sammanfattning : The pregnant uterus mucosa - decidua - is an "immunologically privileged" site. A semiallogeneic embryo is allowed to survive, develop, and grow while the same tissue implanted outside the uterus will be rejected. The decidua basalis, which participates in the placenta formation, is a tissue rich in lymphoid cells. LÄS MER
