1. HDZip I Transcription Factors in Arabidopsis thaliana : Expression and Function in Relation to Environmental Stress Conditions
Sammanfattning : The homeodomain leucine zipper (HDZip) proteins constitute a plant-specific family of transcription factors, that based on sequence criteria have been grouped into four classes, HDZip I-IV. This thesis describes the phylogeny, function, expression patterns and regulation of the HDZip class I genes in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana. LÄS MER
2. Familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy : studies of genetic factors modifying the phenotype of the disease
Sammanfattning : Background. Familial Amyloidosis with Polyneuropathy (FAP) is an autosomal dominantly inherited systemic amyloid disease. The disease is caused by mutations in the transthyretin (TTR) gene, where close to 100 different amyloidogenic mutations have been identified. LÄS MER
3. Haptics with Applications to Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery Planning
Sammanfattning : Virtual surgery planning systems have demonstrated great potential to help surgeons achieve a better functional and aesthetic outcome for the patient, and at the same time reduce time in the operating room resulting in considerable cost savings. However, the two-dimensional tools employed in these systems today, such as a mouse and a conventional graphical display, are difficult to use for interaction with three-dimensional anatomical images. 4. Modification of flavonoid content and photosynthesis by ultraviolet-B radiation. Atrazine-tolerant and -sensitive ultivars of Brassica napus
Sammanfattning : Levels of ultraviolet-B (UV-B, 280-320 nm) radiation reaching the Earth´s surface increase due to stratospheric ozone depletion. In this thesis the effect of enhanced UV-B radiation was studied on the atrazine-tolerant mutant Stallion, susceptible to photoinhibition, and the atrazine-sensitive cultivar Paroll of Brassica napus (oilseed rape). 5. Molecular characterization of apoptosis in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia
Sammanfattning : B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL), characterized by an accumulation of monclonal B cells, is the most common adult leukemia in the Western world. Defective apoptosis is considered to contribute to cell accumulation, disease progression and resistance to therapy in BCLL. LÄS MER
