16. Spinal motoneurones and the bulbospinal serotonininergic system in aged rats with behavioral deficits
Sammanfattning : The expression of neuropeptides, growth-related proteins and neurotrophin receptors were studied in motoneurons of young adult rats and in aged rats with symptoms of neuromuscular incapacities. Also studied were aging-related changes in the descending serotoninergic (5HT) bulbospinal system which constitutes a major afferent pathway to spinal motoneurons. LÄS MER
17. Immunocytochemical studies of cutaneous nerves in human normal and prurigo nodularis skin
Sammanfattning : Cutaneous nerves may regulate the immune system and be involved in inflammatory events of the skin. Prurigo nodularis is a skin disease which histologically reveals a massive neural hyperplasia and a local inflammation in the lesional skin. LÄS MER
18. Neuronal Development in the Embryonic Retina : Focus on the Characterization, Generation and Development of Horizontal Cell Subtypes
Sammanfattning : Horizontal cells are retinal interneurons that modulate the output from photoreceptors. Two horizontal cell (HC) subtypes are commonly identified in the vertebrate retina: axon-bearing and axon-less HCs. LÄS MER
19. Definition of axonal injury tolerances across scales : A computational multiscale approach
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is today regarded as a global health challenge. Revealing how external mechanical loads translate into tissue and cellular damage is necessary, not only for the development of better preventive measures, but also for the definition of treatments that could spare the patients from suffering TBI's devastating consequences. 20. On age related changes in axons and glia of the central nervous system
Sammanfattning : A growing body of evidence shows that phenotypic changes including axon aberrations, rather than loss of neurons, account for behavioral impairments during aging. The present thesis was undertaken to investigate the occurrence of axon aberrations in relation to transmitter identity, glial reaction and sensorimotor disturbances. LÄS MER
