  1. 1. The Physical Axon : Modeling, Simulation and Electrode Evaluation

    Författare :Malcolm Latorre; Karin Wårdell; Göran Salerud; Ulrich Hofmann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Electrodes are used in medicine for detection of biological signals and for stimulating tissue, e.g. in deep brain stimulation (DBS). For both applications, an understanding of the functioning of the electrode, and its interface and interaction with the target tissue involved is necessary. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Controlled axonal outgrowth and cell reactions to nanostructures

    Författare :Fredrik Johansson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Contact guidance; neuron; axon; fibroblast; macrophage; polymethylmethacrylate; porous silicon; nanowire; magnetic; immunoresponse; nanoimprint lithography; haptotaxis;

    Sammanfattning : The interface between living cells and artificial surfaces are highly relevant for biomedical applications such as implants and organized cell growth for tissue reconstruction as well as for basic science purposes. In the present thesis, we have studied axonal guidance on various nano-patterned surfaces such as polymethyl-meth-acrylate, porous silicon and on magnetically aligned Ni nanowires. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes is recognized by hyperglycaemia and polyuria. Complications, reduced quality of life and staggering health-care costs are all derived from the disease. Two subclasses of diabetes are Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Axon Guidance and Morphogenesis of the C. elegans Pharynx

    Författare :Manish Rauthan; Chalmers University of Technology; []

    Sammanfattning : The C. elegans pharynx is a single cell thick muscular tube that undergoes morphogenesis to attain it mature structure from a ball of 80 undifferentiated cells. This thesis is about understanding the mechanisms and the genetic pathways underlying the process of pharyngeogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Spinal Control of Locomotion : Developmental and Functional Aspects

    Författare :Nadine Rabe; Klas Kullander; Artur Kania; Uppsala universitet; []
