  1. 1. Averaging level control in the presence of frequent inlet flow upsets

    Författare :Peter Rosander; Alf J. Isaksson; Johan Löfberg; Morten Hovd; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Averaging level control; PI control; Surge tanks; Optimal control; Robust MPC; Process control;

    Sammanfattning : Buffer tanks are widely used within the process industry to prevent flow variations from being directly propagated throughout a plant. The capacity of the tank is used to smoothly transfer inlet flow upsets to the outlet. Ideally, the tank thus works as a low pass filter where the available tank capacity limits the achievable flow smoothing. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On Objective Measures for Ride Comfort Evaluation

    Författare :Katrin Strandemar; Håkan Hjalmarsson; Staffan Nordmark; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ride; Objective evaluation; Vehicle dynamics; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Sammanfattning : An essential tool in the truck development process is the ability to quantify and grade vehicle dynamic behavior. Today this is performed either through subjective or objective tests. Subjective tests have the disadvantage that numerous factors influence test drivers’ opinions while objective measures have the advantage of repeatability. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Turbulence-resolving Simulations of Swirling Flows

    Författare :Ardalan Javadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Swirling Flow; URANS; Hydropower; Hybrid URANS-LES; SAS; Flow Control; Turbulence Modeling; Vortex Breakdown; DDES; LES;

    Sammanfattning : A series of numerical investigations is undertaken using a wide range of turbulence mod-els including conventional and non-conventional URANS models, hybrid URANS-LESmethods and LES to capture a large variety of physical mechanisms that produce pres-sure pulsations in the swirling flows. The available knowledge about these pulsations,which are usual in hydropower, are still far from complete. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Garnishing the smorgasbord of pharmacometric methods

    Författare :Henrik Bjugård Nyberg; Andrew Hooker; Johannes Schropp; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacometrics; pharmacokinetics; saddle points; nonidentifiability; modelling and simulation; tuberculosis; ethionamide; bioequivalence; model-integrated evidence; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The smorgasbord of methods that we use within the field of pharmacometrics has developed steadily over several decades and is now a well-laid-out buffet. This thesis adds some garnish to the table in the form of small improvements to the handling of certain problems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Essays on intergenerational income mobility, geographical mobility, and education

    Författare :Stefanie Heidrich; Thomas Aronsson; David Granlund; Magnus Wikström; Markus Jäntti; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; optimal taxation; social norms; intergenerational mobility; regional analysis; multilevel model; child human capital development; moving costs; simulation of income paths; lifetime income; nationalekonomi; Economics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of an introductory part and the following four self-contained papers:In Paper [I] we analyze the implications of social identity and self-categorization for optimal redistributive income taxation. A two-type model is supplemented by an assumption that individuals select themselves into social categories, in which norms are formed and education effort choices partly depend on these norms.
