11. Structural integrity of prestressed nuclear reactor containments
Sammanfattning : A nuclear power plant is provided with an extensive defense intended to prevent radioactive discharge in case of a reactor accident. This defense is built up of several independent safety barriers, where the reactor containment constitutes the last barrier to the environment. LÄS MER
12. Properties of Protein and Polymer Systems
Sammanfattning : Interactions of proteins with other proteins, with polymers and with surfaces are of great practical importance within for instance protein purification, drug delivery, and food technology. The aim of this work is to increase the understanding of protein-protein, protein-polyelectrolyte, and protein-surface interactions, particularly concerning the role of electrostatic interactions in these systems. 13. Modelling the Variability of Bending Strength in Structural Timber - Length and Load Configuration Effects
Sammanfattning : The load carrying capacity of a beam of structural timber is dependent both on the span of the beam and the type of loading. The longer the beam and the more uniform the moment distribution, the lower the load carrying capacity. This phenomenon is due to the variability of material properties within a piece of timber. 14. Holistic approach in engineering design - controlling risks from accidental hazards in bridge design
Sammanfattning : Engineering design, in concise terms, is what engineers do using what they know. It is the underlying decision making activity that determines what is to be built and how it should be built. An ever present requirement in engineering design is that the structure should be safe. 15. Modeling the effects of knots in Structural Timber
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of the pursued research is to increase knowledge of the effects of knots in structural timber so that characteristics of weaker timber may be determined and applied to improve current grading techniques. In the process, a three-dimensional fiber paradigm was established, which describes variations of local principle material axes in timber containing knots. LÄS MER
