  1. 1. Pressure autoregulation of cerebral blood flow in traumatic brain injury and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

    Författare :Ulf Johnson; Per Enblad; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral blood flow; autoregulation; traumatic brain injury; subarachnoid hemorrhage; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of the brain to keep a stable and adequate cerebral blood flow (CBF) independently of fluctuations in systemic blood pressure is referred to as cerebral pressure autoregulation (CPA). When the brain is injured by trauma or hemorrhage, this ability may be impaired, leaving the brain vulnerable to events of high or low blood pressure. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neurointensive Care of Children with Severe Traumatic Brain Injury : Studies of barbiturate coma treatment, intracranial compliance, pressure autoregulation and optimal cerebral perfusion pressure

    Författare :Fartein Velle; Per Enblad; Shruti Agrawal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic brain injury; Children; Refractory intracranial hypertension; Barbiturate coma; Intracranial compensatory reserve; autoregulation; cerebral microdialysis.; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is among the most common causes of death and acquired disability during childhood. Management guidelines for pediatric patients are usually extrapolated from adults. Specific pediatric studies are warranted to improve the TBI management in children. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Endothelial Nitric Oxide in the Control of Glomerular Hemodynamics

    Författare :János Pittner; Daniel H. Casellas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Juxtamedullary nephron; afferent arteriole; nitric oxide; endothelial calcium; diaminofluoresceins; fura-2; autoregulation; shear stress; flow; videomicroscopy; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The afferent arteriole of the kidney is a unique vascular segment: it is the effector of the renal hemodynamic autoregulation. The use of the isolated, perfused juxtamedullary nephron preparation makes it possible to visualize the afferent arteriole while preserving its tissue surroundings and the functional integrity of the nephron. 4. 4. Aspects on Mechanisms, Treatment and Outcome in Severe Traumatic Brain Injury

    Författare :Teodor Svedung Wettervik; Anders Lewén; Per Enblad; Elham Rostami; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoregulation; clinical outcome; energy metabolism; multimodality monitoring; neurointensive-care; traumatic brain injury; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause for mortality and morbidity worldwide. The primary injury has great impact on patient outcome and cannot be cured, but attentive neurointensive care (NIC) may reduce detrimental secondary brain injuries and is the focus of this thesis. 5. 5. The cerebral circulation in preeclampsia : abnormalities in autoregulation and perfusion

    Författare :Michael A Belfort; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :preeclampsia; eclampsia; autoregulation; cerebral perfusion pressure; Doppler; central retinal artery; ophthalmic artery; middle cerebral artery; magnesium sulfate; nimodipine; headache; scotomata;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Eclampsia continues to be a major cause of maternal death. Abnormal cerebral blood flow and autoregulation may play an important role in the causation. Doppler ultrasound now allows assessment of the pathophysiology of preeclampsia, and the mechanisms of action of drugs used to treat it. LÄS MER
