11. Animal genomics – gene discovery and gene characterization
Sammanfattning : This thesis involves two projects. The aim in the first project was to identify genomic regions associated with spontaneous autoimmune thyroiditis (SAT), which is a hereditary autoimmune disease that affects the obese strain (OS) of chicken, an animal model for human Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT). 12. Differentiation factor Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand is a modulator of cell responses in autoimmune diseases
Sammanfattning : Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (Flt3) is a receptor on common stem cell progenitors and has a crucial role in hematopoesis, regulating cell proliferation and differentiation in man and mice. The growth factor Flt3 is activated by its soluble ligand, Flt3-L, leading to differentiation of multipotent stem cells and lymphoid progenitors. LÄS MER
13. Immunological Studies using Human and Canine Model Disorders
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis focus on human and canine models for autoimmune disease, with the main aim to gain new knowledge about disease mechanisms and to further evaluate the dog as a model for autoimmune disease. Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome type 1 (APS-1) is a hereditary human multiorgan disease caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene. LÄS MER
14. Model diseases for studies of autoimmunity
Sammanfattning : The events triggering autoimmune diseases are to large extent unknown and model diseases are an important tool in studies aiming to elucidate molecular mechanisms in autoimmunity. Autoimmune Addison’s disease (AAD) is a rare disease characterized by autoimmune destruction of adrenal glands and most patients with AAD have autoantibodies against the enzyme 21‑hydroxylase in the adrenal cortex. 15. Characteristics and functions of thymic exosomes in human and mouse
Sammanfattning : Thymocytes develop in the thymus to become a functional pool of T-cells in the periphery. To achieve this, the thymocytes go through several steps of maturation and selection within the thymus. LÄS MER
