  1. 6. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules : from hydrogen to DNA sugars

    Författare :Gemma Vall-llosera; Elisabeth Rachlew; Stacey Sorensen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KTH thesis; synchrotron radiation; gas phase; bio molecules; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar. 2. 7. Interior Flow and Formation of Plain Orifice Sprays

    Författare :Zachary Falgout; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ballistic Imaging; Sprays; Fluid Mechanics; Mixture Formation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis will summarize recent experimental observations of spray formation in highly atomizing plainorifce sprays, the kind commonly produced by fuel injectors in compression ignition internal combustionengines. Two special interactions will be addressed in detail: primary atomization under elevated ambientpressures and temperatures and orifce ow effects on primary atomization. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Comb-based Characterization of Photonic Devices

    Författare :Krishna Sundar Twayana; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; frequency combs; microcombs; waveguides; stepped-heterodyne technique; swept-wavelength interferometry; optical frequency domain spectroscopy; microresonators;

    Sammanfattning : Integrated photonics has been one of the fastest-growing fields in science. Measuring photonic devices in amplitude and phase (i.e. complex response) provides insight into their performance. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Ultralow noise pre-amplified receiver for free-space optical communications

    Författare :Ravikiran Kakarla; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sensitivity; noise figure; optical injection locking; Phase sensitive amplifier;

    Sammanfattning : The demand for high data rate in space communication links is increasing due to the growth of space exploration missions inter-satellite, and satellite-to-Earth data transmission. Optical communication systems capable of handling hundreds of Gigabits per second data transmission with a single light carrier and are suitable for such space links. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Quantum acoustics with propagating phonons

    Författare :Maria Ekström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phonon router; unidirectional transducer; phonon; Electromagnetically Induced Transparency; Surface acoustic wave; artificial atom; interdigital transducer; quantum acoustics; qubit; superconducting circuits;

    Sammanfattning : Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are mechanical vibrations that propagate on the surface of solids while dissipating little power, consequently enabling them to propagate freely over long distances. The speed and wavelength of SAWs are reduced a five order of magnitude compared to when light is used as a carrier at gigahertz frequencies. LÄS MER
