16. The Role of Microstructure in the Atmospheric Corrosion of Selected Light Alloys and Composites
Sammanfattning : Magnesium-aluminum (Mg-Al) alloys, Mg-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) and Al alloys are among the best material candidates for future lightweight solutions. However, the use of these materials is limited by a number of issues, including the ability to resist corrosion. LÄS MER
17. Modeling the Zeeman Effect in Planetary Atmospheric Radiative Transfer
Sammanfattning : There are special effects in spectroscopy that must be considered in order to fullyexplain how molecular oxygen interacts with radiation in planetary atmospheres. One of these, the Zeeman effect, is described in this thesis. LÄS MER
18. Investigating parameters governing liquid-phase cloud activation of atmospheric particles
Sammanfattning : Aerosol-cloud interactions are one of the main sources of uncertainties in modeling and predicting the Earth’s climate. To overcome this uncertainty, we need to improve the understanding about the processes and parameters defining how aerosol particles turn into cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) or ice nuclei (IN) to produce cloud droplets or ice crystals. 19. Greening Earth? : Science, Politics and Land Use in the Kyoto Negotiations
Sammanfattning : Can a deliberate enhancement of the natural uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide in forests and agricultural lands contribute to global efforts to mitigate anthropogenic climate change? This is a question that has generated a great deal of debate and controversy since the inception of the multilateral climate negotiations in the early 1990s. This thesis offers an analysis of how this debate has played out in the negotiations on the land-use change and forestry activities in the Kyoto Protocol. LÄS MER
20. Insights into key processes governing atmospheric aerosol loadings and their interactions with clouds
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles are ubiquitous in the atmosphere and an essential part of the atmospheric radiation balance regulating the Earth’s temperature. Aerosol-cloud interaction still remains the largest single uncertainty in future climate projections. In addition, aerosols are also responsible for air pollution, causing severe health effects.
