21. Bioaugmentation for reduction of diffuse pesticide contamination : a bioprophylactic concept
Sammanfattning : Pesticides and their residues frequently contaminate surface waters and groundwater so consequently there is a great need to identify methods and practices that reduce such contamination. This thesis examined the potential of a 'bioprophylactic' concept based on the hypothesis that diffuse contamination after application in the field can be significantly reduced if pesticides are degraded as rapidly as possible after the intended effect has been achieved. 22. Paths to improving atmospheric models across scales : The importance of the unresolved scales
Sammanfattning : Correct representation of physical processes, the parametrizations, and their interaction with the resolved circulation is crucial for the performance of numerical models. Here, focus is put on understanding model biases and developing tools to alleviate existing biases. LÄS MER
23. Recovery and validation of Odin/SMR measurements of mesospheric CO and H2O
Sammanfattning : Although life on Earth is concentrated in the troposphere, not only the processes happening here are of interest, since tropospheric processes are not the only ones that have an impact on the climate. Coupling mechanisms between different layers are such that changes in middle atmospheric dynamics and composition have an effect on what happens at lower altitudes. LÄS MER
24. Historical anthropogenic radiative forcing of changes in biogenic secondary organic aerosol
Sammanfattning : Human activities have lead to changes in the energy balance of the Earth and the global climate. Changes in atmospheric aerosols are the second largest contributor to climate change after greenhouse gases since 1750 A.D. LÄS MER
25. Surface energy exchange and land-atmosphere interactions of Arctic and subarctic tundra ecosystems under climate change
Sammanfattning : The surface energy balance determines the functioning of any ecosystem on the Earth but is still poorly understood in Arctic and subarctic biomes. In a dynamic system, such as the Earth’s climate, any change in its characteristics modifies the exchange of energy, water, and greenhouse gases between the surface and the atmosphere. LÄS MER
