  1. 11. Some new Friedrichs-type inequalities in domains with microinhomogeneous structure

    Författare :Yulia Koroleva; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Sammanfattning : This Licentiate thesis is devoted to derive and discuss some new Friedrichs-type inequalities for functions, which belong to the Sobolev space $H^1$ in domains with microinhomogeneous structure and which vanish on a part of the boundary. The classical Friedrics inequality holds for functions from the space $\mathop{H^{\smash 1}}\limits^{\circ}$ with a constant depending only on the measure of the domain. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Free convolutions and the Pearcey process in random matrix theory

    Författare :Philippe Moreillon; Kevin Schnelli; Benoit Collins; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : The dissertation is in Random Matrix Theory, a field at the interface of probability theory, mathematical physics and operator algebras. First, we examine elementary questions that arise in Voiculescu’s Free Probability Theory of non-commutative random variables. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Quiescent regimes in cosmology

    Författare :Hans Oude Groeniger; Hans Ringström; Mattias Dahl; Todd Oliynyk; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quiescence; Bianchi spacetimes; big bang formation; G2 cosmology; Wainwright-Hsu variables; Klein-Gordon equation; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about cosmological solutions to Einstein’s equations of general relativity, in particular spacetimes whose mean curvature diverges. Moreover, we consider anisotropic spacetimes with big bang singularities. In this setting the singularity is expected to generically be oscillatory if no matter is present. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Generalized linear models with clustered data

    Författare :Henrik Holmberg; Erling Häggström Lundevaller; Göran Broström; Douglas Bates; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : In situations where a large data set is partitioned into many relatively small groups, and where the members within a group have some common unmeasured characteristics, the number of parameters requiring estimation tends to increase with sample size if a fixed effects model is applied. This fact causes the assumptions underlying asymptotic results to be violated. LÄS MER
