11. A Search for Solar Neutralino Dark Matter with the AMANDA-II Neutrino Telescope
Sammanfattning : A relic density of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) remaining from the Big Bang constitutes a promising solution to the Dark Matter problem. It is possible for such WIMPs to be trapped by and accumulate in gravitational potentials of massive dense objects such as the Sun. LÄS MER
12. Seeking the faint extremes : Detection and characterisation of extragalactic soft-spectrum gamma-ray sources and exploring methods to enhance their detection with machine learning in the 50 GeV-50 TeV energy range
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with an observational study of Blazars, strong gamma-ray sources with Very High Energies (VHE) located far outside our Galaxy. Blazars are a class of galaxies that contain a supermassive black hole that is actively consuming large quantities of matter, a process that results in the liberation of tremendous amounts of energy that then powers the emission of huge bulks of charged particles that get accelerated almost to the speed of light. 14. Imaging the high energy cosmic ray sky
Sammanfattning : The Stockholm Educational Air Shower Array (SEASA) project is deploying an array of plastic scintillator detector stations on school roofs in the Stockholm area. Signals from GPS satellites are used to time synchronise signals from the widely separated detector stations, allowing cosmic ray air showers to be identified and studied. LÄS MER
15. Searching for an Ultra High-Energy Diffuse Flux of Extraterrestrial Neutrinos with IceCube 40
Sammanfattning : Neutrino astronomy has the potential to greatly improve our understanding of the high-energy universe. An unresolved, diffuse, flux of neutrinos is sensitive to the properties of the population of cosmic accelerators in the universe. LÄS MER
