  1. 1. Measurement of Multi-Jet Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at 7 TeV Center-of-Mass Energy and Hadronic Calibration Studies with the ATLAS Detector at CERN

    Författare :Karl-Johan Grahn; Bengt Lund-Jensen; Anwar Bhatti; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The ATLAS experiment – situated at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva – took its first collsion data in 2010. Physics topics include finding the Higgs boson, heavy quark physics, and looking for extensions of the Standard Model of Particle Physics such as supersymmetry. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A New Measurement of Low Energy Antiprotons In the Cosmic Radiation

    Författare :Petter Hofverberg; Mark Pearce; Stephane Coutu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cosmic radiation; antiprotons; solar modulation; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : New measurements of the antiproton flux and the antiproton-to-proton flux ratio at the top of the atmosphere between 80 MeV and 2.0 GeV are presented. The measurement was conducted from July 2006 to March 2008 with the PAMELA satellite experiment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pre-Flight Development of the PoGOLite Pathfinder

    Författare :Mózsi Kiss; Mark Pearce; Gottfried Kanbach; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The Polarized Gamma-ray Observer (PoGOLite) is a balloon-borne instrument that will measure gamma-ray polarization in the energy range 25-80 keV from astronomical sources such as pulsars, accretion discs and jets from active galacticnuclei. The two additional parameters provided by such observations, polarizationangle and degree, will allow these objects to be studied in a new way, providing information about their emission mechanisms and geometries. 4. 4. Performance Studies and Star Tracking for PoGOLite

    Författare :Cecilia Marini Bettolo; Mark Pearce; Nicolas Produit; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polarization; pulsars; x-ray; PoGOLite; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : PoGOLite is a balloon-borne experiment, which will study polarized soft γ-ray emissionfrom astrophysical targets in the 25-80 keV energy range by applying well-typephoswich detector technology. Polarized γ-rays are expected from a wide variety of sources including rotation-powered pulsars, accreting black holes and neutron stars,and jet-dominated active galaxies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of cosmic rays with the anticoincidence system of the PAMELA satellite experiment

    Författare :Silvio Orsi; Mark Pearce; Martin Pohl; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astrophysics; astroparticle physics; antimatter; organic scintillators; cosmic rays; trapped particles; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : PAMELA is a satellite-borne experiment designed to study the charged component of the cosmic radiation of galactic, solar and trapped nature. The main scientific objective is the study of the antimatter component of cosmic rays over a wide range of energies (antiprotons: 80 MeV–190 GeV, positrons: 50 MeV–270 GeV). LÄS MER
