21. Psychiatric care of people at risk of committing suicide : narrative interviews with registered nurses, physicians, patients and their relatives
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis are to illuminate the meaning of being cared for and treated by nurses and physicians, as narrated by psychiatric suicidal in-patients; the meaning of taking care of and treating patient at risk of committing suicide, as narrated by nurses and physicians; and the meaning of being met and having one’s suicidal relative taken care of by health personnel, as narrated by relatives. Narrative interviews were conducted with 42 adult patients at risk of committing suicide in an in-patient psychiatric unit, 19 RNs, 19 physicians, and 15 relatives at a hospital in Norway. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to explore how nursing is constructed in home-based nursing care from the viewpoint of patients and nurses who are receiving or giving care. Since nursing both constructs and is in turn constructed by the context in which it serves, language plays a central part in those constructions and in this thesis. LÄS MER
24. Stress and coping in parents of children with cancer
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to investigate disease-related stress and ways of coping in parents whose children were in active treatment for cancer, or had completed successful cancer treatment. Specifically, the research included examinations of: disease-related stress at various points in time after the child's diagnosis; strain and traumatic stress during and after the child's treatment; the relation of certain demographic and disease-related variables to parental stress; the use of various coping strategies, and the co-variation of coping strategies and level of emotional distress; and the relationships between perceived social support, support-seeking coping, and emotional distress.
