  1. 6. Genetic aspects of stroke : association and linkage studies in a northern Swedish population

    Författare :Per-Gunnar Wiklund; Birgitta Stegmayr; Kjell Asplund; Dan Holmberg; Alun Evans; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; stroke; genetics; polymorphism; association; linkage; risk factors; plasminogen activator inhibitor-1; tissue plasminogen activator; angiotensin converting enzyme; angiotensin II receptor type 1; phosphodiesterase 4D; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a common, multifactorial cardiovascular disease. A stroke event is the result of traditional risk factors (i.e. hypertension, diabetes, smoking), environmental exposures and genetic factors in a complex interplay. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions

    Författare :Marina Tsianou; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scaling; light scattering; rheology; aqueous solution behavior; phase behavior; cyclodextrin; surfactant; polyacrylate; cellulose ether; polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; Polymer; water soluble polymer; viscosity; association; segregation; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively. 3. 8. Global functional association network inference and crosstalk analysis for pathway annotation

    Författare :Christoph Ogris; Erik Sonnhammer; Alfonso Valencia; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biological networks; genome wide functional association networks; global gene association networks; gene networks; protein networks; functional association; functional coupling; network biology pathway analysis; pathway annotation; pathway enrichment; network-based enrichment; enrichment; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Cell functions are steered by complex interactions of gene products, like forming a temporary or stable complex, altering gene expression or catalyzing a reaction. Mapping these interactions is the key in understanding biological processes and therefore is the focus of numerous experiments and studies. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Genetic linkage and association studies in celiac disease: discoveries from whole genome analysis

    Författare :Svetlana Adamovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Celiac Disease; genome-wide scan; linkage; association; GWAS; complex disease; autoimmune; 5q31-33; HLA; IL2 IL21;

    Sammanfattning : Celiac Disease (CD) or Gluten Sensitive Enteropathy (GSE) is a life-long disorder. It is characterized by inflammation in the small intestine of genetically predisposed individuals caused by inappropriate immune response to gluten, a protein enriched in some of our common grains (wheat, rye and barley). 5. 10. Genetic variation and prostate cancer : population-based association studies in Sweden

    Författare :Sara Lindström; Henrik Grönberg; Fredrik Wiklund; John Todd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; epidemiology; SRD5A2; ERG; progression; genetics; association studies; polymorphism; haplotype; CDH1; AR; CYP17; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer constitutes the most common malignancy and the most common cause of cancer‐related death in Swedish men. A large body of evidence suggests that inherited genetic variants contribute to both development and progression of prostate cancer. LÄS MER
