  1. 1. The assisting hand assessment : continued development, psychometrics and longitudinal use

    Författare :Marie Holmefur; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Assisting Hand Assessment; measurement; hand function; children; unilateral cerebral palsy; hemiplegia; longitudinal; psychometrics; Rasch analysis;

    Sammanfattning : For most people, using both hands together is a natural part of everyday activities. But for children with a unilateral disability in the arm and hand, activities requiring two hands are often a challenge. In order to evaluate interventions that optimize the use of the affected or assisting hand, valid and reliable measures are needed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aspects of hand function in children with unilateral impairments : caused by obstetric brachial plexus or hemiplegic cerebral palsy

    Författare :Lena Krumlinde Sundholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hand function; unilateral impairments; obstetric brachial plexus palsy; hemiplegic cerebral palsy; children; assisting hand;

    Sammanfattning : Unilateral arm/hand dysfunction caused by obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) or hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP) is most often afflicted on a child in the pre- or perinatal period of life. Despite different origin of the impairments, the outcomes for both groups implicate one well functioning and one dysfunctioning hand, and the consequences for every day task performance are similar. 3. 3. Congenital upper limb anomalies : studies of epidemiology and hand function

    Författare :Anna Gerber Ekblom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: This thesis has three interrelated aims. (1) To describe the epidemiology of congenital upper limb anomalies (CULA) in Stockholm County, Sweden, in order to augment the few existing population studies of CULA (paper I); (2) To measure the incidence of different categories of CULA while using and evaluating a recently proposed new classification scheme (Oberg, Manske and Tonkin (OMT) Classification) based on more current knowledge of limb development than the previously used International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) Classification is based on (paper II); and (3) To investigate the relationship between measurements of body function and structure with both activity and participation in children and adults with radial longitudinal deficiency (RLD) by using the International Classification of Functioning and Health (ICF) framework, in order to shed light on what aspects of physical limb function and structure actually affect individuals’ daily life activity (papers III and IV). 4. 4. Recovery and prediction of hand motor function after stroke : a longitudinal study using novel methods to quantify hand function and connectivity in brain networks

    Författare :Jeanette Plantin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Stroke is a heterogeneous disease and a leading cause of physical disability among adults, severely affecting people’s health and life worldwide. According to current figures, one in four people risk suffering a stroke during their lifetime. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Longitudinal development of hand function in children with unilateral cerebral palsy and its relation to brain lesion and treatment

    Författare :Linda Nordstrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the development of hand function in children with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy (CP), and to investigate its relation to brain lesion and treatment. Effective hand use is necessary for task performance and independence in everyday activities. LÄS MER
