  1. 1. Cytochrome P450 enzymes affected by artemisinin antimalarials-pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic aspects

    Författare :Sara Asimus; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :artemisinin; autoinduction; cytochrome P450; induction; inhibition; malaria; metabolism; pharmacogenetics; pharmacokinetics; probe;

    Sammanfattning : With more than 500 million cases and at least 1 million deaths each year, malaria is a major global health problem. The main problem with malaria control is the emerging drug resistance among parasites causing the infection. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new drugs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clinical Pharmacokinetics of the Antimalarial Artemisinin Based on Saliva Sampling

    Författare :Toufigh Gordi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Artemisinin; pharmacokinetics; saliva; HPLC; pharmacodynamics; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Artemisinin is the parent compound of a novel family of antimalarials. Repetitive administrations of artemisinin to both healthy volunteers and malaria patients have been shown to result in decreased plasma concentrations of the compound, most probably due to an autoinduction of different CYP450 enzymes. 3. 3. Pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions in the management of malaria, HIV and tuberculosis

    Författare :Doaa Elsherbiny; Ulrika Simonsson; Mats Karlsson; Lars Ståhle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Pharmacokinetics; Drug-drug interactions; Cytochrome P-450; Artemisinin antimalarials; Nevirapine; Lopinavir; Rifampicin; NONMEM; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and tuberculosis (TB) are global health problems having their worst situation in sub-Saharan Africa. Consequently, concomitant use of antimalarial, antiretroviral and antitubercular drugs may be needed, resulting in a potential risk of drug-drug interactions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Clinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimalarial combination therapy

    Författare :Sofia Friberg Hietala; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; antimalarials; artemisinins;

    Sammanfattning : In the face of growing drug resistance, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued recommendations strongly encouraging the use of combination therapies to combat uncomplicated malaria. Amongst the most effective treatments are those combining an artemisinin derivative with a longer acting component such as amodiaquine, lumefantrine or piperaquine. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Piperaquine - Bioanalys, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics

    Författare :Joel Tärning; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Piperaquine; malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; antimalarials; ACT; pharmacokinetics; NONMEM; population pharmacokinetics; NCA; bioavailability; enterohepatic circulation; metabolism; metabolites; animal models; bioanalysis; regression models; validation; HPLC; LC-MS MS; H-NMR; FTICR-MS;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria is one of the most abundant parasitic diseases in the world affecting many of the poorest economies. The estimated prevalence is 300 to 700 million clinical episodes each year with up to 3 million deaths. LÄS MER
