Sammanfattning : The starting point of the thesis consists of a number of statements by prominent representatives of the cultural elite characterising architecture with references to classicism as the modern architecture. In the following years Swedish architecture was dominated by references to classical historical architecture focussing on the ideal of simplicity, which in turn formed a wider conceptual framework of ideas and ideals for architectural creation. 3. Medeltidskyrkan i Uppland : restaurering och rumslig förnyelse under 1900-talet
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work is to illuminate the history of restoration in 20th century Sweden by studying restorations of medieval Uppland churches, in the hope of highlighting the debate and conflicts surrounding the ideologies forming the framework of church restorations and identifying the crucial considerations. It is an attempt to depicting church restorations with the focus of attention on the function of the church interior, but also on ways of achieving a credible design appropriate to the present.
