11. Chemical characteristics of atmospheric aerosols : the influence of natural and man-made sources and sinks
Sammanfattning : In order to improve the understanding of the climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosol particles, knowledge about their sources, sinks, chemical and physical characteristics as well as transportation in the atmosphere is needed. This thesis examines the water-soluble chemical characteristics of aerosol particles and precipitation and their interaction with trace gases. LÄS MER
12. Meteoric Aerosols in the Middle Atmosphere
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the fate of the meteoric smoke in the Middle Atmosphere, and its effect on ice phenomena such as noctilucent clouds (NLC) and polar stratospheric clouds (PSC). The potential role of NLC as tracer for mesospheric processes and variability, and as a tool for monitoring this remote and inaccessible region, has generated substantial interest within the scientific community. 13. Transport of mineral dust into the Arctic : Evaluation of two reanalysis datasets of atmospheric composition
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis is to examine the mineral dust aerosol transport into the Arctic. Two three-dimensional reanalysis datasets of atmospheric composition, the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service reanalysis (CAMSRA) and the Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications, version 2 (MERRA-2), are analyzed with regard to dust transport into the Arctic. 14. Lidar Studies of Tropospheric Aerosols and Clouds
Sammanfattning : An improved description of aerosol and cloud processes is a prerequisite for successful prediction of future climate change. The climate on Earth is controlled by the radiation budget, i.e. the relation between the radiation going into and out from the atmosphere. LÄS MER
15. Quantification of sources and removal mechanisms of atmospheric aerosol particles
Sammanfattning : The focus of this work has been to quantify important processes for climatically relevant aerosols, and to improve our understanding of, and ability to accurately model, aerosols in the atmosphere on a large scale. This thesis contains five papers focused on different parts of the life cycle of atmospheric aerosol particles. LÄS MER
