11. Sea Ice and Ocean Environmental Applications of Spaceborn SAR
Sammanfattning : The worldwide focus on our changing environment has led to an increased need to observe and characterise a range of environmental phenomena. The Arctic Ocean is particularly sensitive to climate variations. LÄS MER
12. Arctic Climate and Water Change : Information Relevance for Assessment and Adaptation
Sammanfattning : The Arctic is subject to growing economic and political interest. Meanwhile, its water and climate systems are in rapid transformation. Relevant and accessible information about water and climate is therefore vital to detect, understand and adapt to the changes. LÄS MER
13. Late Quaternary Biostratigraphy and Paleoceanography of the central Arctic Ocean
Sammanfattning : The central Arctic Ocean is one of the least explored deep sea regions and long biostratigraphic sediment records are sparse. The main focus of this thesis is the Arctic Ocean foraminiferal record and its application to reconstruct paleoceanographic variations and summer sea ice cover changes between late Quaternary interglacial periods. 14. The high Arctic summer aerosol : Size, chemical composition, morphology and evolution over the pack-ice
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles, especially in the high Arctic are still not very well represented in climate models. Particle size and number concentrations are strongly under-predicted and temporal variations of aerosol composition and size are still not very well understood, mainly due to the sparsity of observations. 15. A multimethod approach to dating Quaternary sediments from the Arctic Ocean
Sammanfattning : The marine sedimentary environment in the polar regions is different from the rest of the world’s oceans, as it is greatly influenced by the cryosphere. In the Arctic, sea ice and icebergs can transport vast amounts of sediments, delivered by extensive fluvial systems from the surrounding continents, which have been shaped by the waxing and waning of large terrestrial ice sheets during the Quaternary period.
