6. Interfacial Phenomena in Two-Phase systems: Emulsions and slag Foaming
Sammanfattning : In the present work studies were performed to provide understanding for further model development of the two-phase phenomena, film formation from o/w emulsions and slag foaming. The drying of o/w emulsions of different oil viscosities on hydrophobic and hydrophilic substrates was studied. 7. Protein-Polymer Interaction and Association in Aqueous Solution
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to study protein-polymer interaction and association. Two different techniques were used; Monte Carlo simulations were combined with partitioning in polymeric aqueous two-phase systems. Monte Carlo simulations have been used to evaluate the hydrophobic interaction in electrolyte solution. LÄS MER
8. Anaerobic Digestion – Microbial Ecology, Improved Operational Design and Process Monitoring
Sammanfattning : The implementation of anaerobic digestion is important in the concept of sustainable development, especially regarding the environmental benefits. Biogas is produced when organic matter is degraded by microorganisms under oxygen-free (anaerobic) conditions. LÄS MER
9. HYDROPHOBIC PEPTIDE TAGS - As tools in bioseparation and investigation of recombinant proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the possibility of using hydrophobic peptide tags as tools for bioseparation and for the investigation of recombinant proteins. The hydrophobicity of a protein can easily be changed by minor modifications, such as fusions of tyrosine-containing peptides. LÄS MER
10. Preparation of leaf mitochondria and studies on mitochondrial photorespiratory reactions
Sammanfattning : A procedure for the preparation of spinach leaf mitochondria was developed. The procedure combines differential centrifugation, partition in dextran- polyethyleneglycol two-phase system and Percoli density gradient centri- fugation. The different steps separate the material mainly according to size, surface properties and density, respectively. LÄS MER
