  1. 6. Internal oxygen transport to below-ground parts: importance for emergent macrophytes

    Författare :Viveka Vretare Strand; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; water depth; zonation; phenotypic plasticity; biomass allocation; pressurised ventilation; oxygen; Phragmites australis; emergent macrophytes; common reed; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines factors regulating growth and distribution of emergent plants with focus on effects of oxygen supply to the roots. Greenhouse experiments revealed that P. australis acclimatizes to specific water depths with phenotypic plasticity. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Direct and indirect effects of fish predation and excretion in aquatic food webs

    Författare :José Luiz Attayde; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine biology; Hydrobiology; zooplankton; resilience; predation; phytoplankton; nutrient enrichment; nutrient recycling; interaction strength; herbivory; food webs; food chain; excretion; fish; detritus; detritivory; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the mechanisms by which planktivorous fish can affect planktonic communities in lakes and how they may affect benthic communities through their effects on planktonic communities. In a laboratory experiment, nutrients released by fish increased algal biomass and altered phytoplankton community structure, suggesting that fish can affect phytoplankton by directly releasing nutrients. 3. 8. Diversity of aquatic viruses from genes to host interactions

    Författare :Emelie Nilsson; Karin Holmfeldt; Martha Clokie; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial ecology; bacteriophage; ‘omics; isolation; host range; temporal variation; deep biosphere; Baltic Sea; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are the most numerous entities on Earth, and can be found in all waters. In aquatic ecosystems, viruses are key players since they alter the way energy and nutrients are transferred by killing larger organisms. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Effects of solar radiation on the abiotic and bacterially mediated carbon flux in aquatic ecosystems

    Författare :Alexandre Magno Anesio; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; dissolved inorganic carbon DIC ; bioavailability; aquatic macrophytes; photooxidation; detritus decomposition; Ultraviolet radiation; dissolved organic carbon DOC ; fungi; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this Thesis, I studied some of the current aspects of organic matter photochemistry. I analyzed abiotic phototransformations of several types of dissolved (DOM) and particulate organic matter (POM). I also evaluated the effects of phototransformation of several types of DOM on bacteria. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Intraspecific diversity of pike (Esox lucius) in the Baltic Sea and new insights on thermoregulation in fish

    Författare :Oscar Nordahl; Per Larsson; Anders Forsman; Juha Merilä; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adaptive divergence; Cyprinus carpio; ecology; Esox lucius; evolution; local adaptation; management; thermoregulation; sun-basking; vertical migration; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Evolutionary Biology; Evolutionsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fish display a fascinating variation in behavior, morphology and physiology among species, among individuals within species, and within individuals over time. A central quest in ecology and evolution is to understand causes and consequences of such variation. LÄS MER
