  1. 16. Participating in a Story: Exploring Audience Cognition

    Författare :Pierre Gander; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; memory; cognition; comprehension; Lingvistik; Psychology; Filosofi; Philosophy; computer games; interactive media; perspective; memory qualities; spatial cognition; fiction; narrative; cognitive science; linguistics; Psykologi; Applied and experimental psychology; Tillämpad och experimentell psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stories that the audience can influence (such as computer games and other interactive multimedia), in contrast to 'traditional' stories (such as books and cinema), present a challenge to fields which take narrative (story) as their study object. What is the difference between these two kinds of stories? Earlier theories have focused on differences in media, structure, or the audience's physical actions. LÄS MER

  2. 17. On Linguistic and Discursive Constructions of Concession and Adversativity : Towards a Multilevel Analysis of English in the UK Parliament

    Författare :Mihai Daniel Frumuselu; Michal Krzyżanowski; Cornelia Ilie; Per Ledin; Eivind Nessa Torgersen; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; concession; adversativity; political discourse; parliamentary discourse; UK Parliament; Corpus Linguistics; Discourse Analysis; Critical Discourse Analysis; English; Engelska;

    Sammanfattning : This study analyses concessive and adversarial language in UK parliamentary debates and thereby enriches the theoretical and analytical body of knowledge on the language of concession and adversativity in contemporary English. It contributes to existent scholarship on both grammatical constructions of concession/adversativity and on the dynamics of contemporary British parliamentary and political discourse. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Organizational Trust : Discourse Analytical and Experimental Perspectives

    Författare :Matteo Fuoli; Kognition och Discourse@Lund (SKD@L) Språk; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; organizational trust; corporate discourse; trust repair; evaluation; appraisal theory; corpus linguistics; discourse analysis; experimentation; multi-method approaches; reliability; triangulation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis employs a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of linguistic analysis to investigate how business organizations use discourse as a strategic tool to build and repair stakeholders’ trust. In addition, the thesis makes a methodological contribution by developing a novel corpus annotation method that offers solutions to some of the most significant challenges involved in reliably identifying and quantifying evaluation. 4. 19. Discourse Features in Balochi of Sistan : (Oral Narratives)

    Författare :Behrooz Barjasteh Delforooz; Carina Jahani; Stephen H. Levinsohn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Balochi; discourse studies; oral narratives; text linguistics; information structure; syntax; descriptive linguistics; fieldwork; Iranian languages; Iranian languages; Iranska språk; Iranska språk; Iranian Languages;

    Sammanfattning : This work presents a first study of discourse features in Balochi narratives of Sistan. Discourse analysis investigates what are the properties that make for well-formed texts in a language. There are many approaches to discourse analysis and most approaches focus on a particular aspect of text formation. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Translation as Linear Transduction : Models and Algorithms for Efficient Learning in Statistical Machine Translation

    Författare :Markus Saers; Joakim Nivre; Anna Sågvall Hein; Dekai Wu; Kevin Knight; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; linear transduction; linear transduction grammar; inversion transduction; zipper finite-state automaton; zipper finite-state transducer; formal language theory; formal transduction theory; translation; automatic translation; machine translation; statistical machine translation; Computational linguistics; Datorlingvistik; Language technology; Språkteknologi; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : Automatic translation has seen tremendous progress in recent years, mainly thanks to statistical methods applied to large parallel corpora. Transductions represent a principled approach to modeling translation, but existing transduction classes are either not expressive enough to capture structural regularities between natural languages or too complex to support efficient statistical induction on a large scale.
