  1. 1. Rate Limiting Factors For Protein Folding

    Författare :Maria Berggård Silow; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kinetic competition; transient aggregation; diffusion control; reconfiguration time; collapse; osmolytes; broad barriers; Hammond behaviour; two-state; U1A; CI2; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract. This thesis describes factors that are rate limiting for the folding of two small proteins, U1A and CI2 which fold without accumulating intermediates. The [GdnHCl] dependencies of the unfolding- and refolding kinetics of U1A display downward curvatures. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Reaction-Diffusion kinetics of Protein DNA Interactions

    Författare :Anel Mahmutovic; Johan Elf; David van der Spoel; Pieter Rein ten Wolde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; umbrella sampling; molecular dynamics; RDME; PDE; sliding; intersegment transfer; hopping; sterics; intersegment transfer; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Transcription factors need to rapidly find one specific binding site among millions of nonspecific sites on the chromosomal DNA. In this thesis I use various aspects of reaction-diffusion theory to investigate the interaction between proteins and DNA and to explain the searching, finding and binding to specific operator sites. 3. 3. Atom-Diatom Scattering. From Potential Energy Surfaces to Rate Constants

    Författare :Erik Abrahamsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about the theoretical study of collisions between atoms and diatomic molecules. It might seem like a trivial problem, but in reality it is a highly complex process. Despite, or because of, their apparent simplicity, these processes are of importance for a broad area of science. 4. 4. Quinine metabolism in man : emphasis on the 3-hydroxylation as a biomarker reaction for the activity of CYP3A4

    Författare :Rajaa A Mirghani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Quinine is one of the cinchona alkaloids and used in the treatment of severe forms of malaria. Formation of 3-hydroxyquinine is catalysed by cytochrome P-450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which is the enzyme involved in the metabolism of about 50% of all drugs in clinical use. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Microkinetic Modeling of Nanoparticle Catalysis using Density Functional Theory

    Författare :Mikkel Jørgensen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density Functional Theory; Methane oxidation; Mean-field approximation; Microkinetic modeling; Kinetic Monte Carlo; Nanoparticles; Entropy; CO oxidation; Catalysis;

    Sammanfattning : Heterogeneous catalysis is vitally important to modern society, and one path towardsrational catalyst design is through atomistic scale understanding. The atomistic scalecan be linked to macroscopic observables by microkinetic models based on first-principlescalculations. LÄS MER
