  1. 6. Lipoproteins in the postprandial state: Studies on the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins using multicompartmental models

    Författare :Elias Björnson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipoprotein metabolism; Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoproteins are lipid-containing spherical particles that circulate in the human blood stream. The reason for their intense study over the decades is their ability to cause atherosclerosis1. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Adaptive Immunity in Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Daniel Engelbertsen; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis, thickening of the major arteries, is a chronic disease leading to cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, both affecting millions worldwide. T-cells and antibodies have been implicated in atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  3. 8. The interplay between lipoproteins, immunity and tryptophan metabolism in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Konstantinos A Polyzos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Atherosclerosis is initiated by the infiltration and accumulation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the vascular wall, which activates the innate and adaptive arm of immunity, thereby causing chronic vascular inflammation. 4. 9. Assembly and Secretion of Atherogenic Lipoproteins

    Författare :Caroline Beck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :very low-density lipoprotein; ; apolipoprotein B100; ; B-cell receptor associated; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; ; secretion; assembly;

    Sammanfattning : The classical dyslipidemia seen in patients with type 2 diabetes is characterized by elevated serum triglycerides (TG), low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the appearance of small, dense low-density lipoproteins (LDL). It is now recognized that the different components of diabetic dyslipidemia are not isolated abnormalities but are closely linked to each other metabolically, and are initiated by the hepatic overproduction of large triglyceride-rich very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL1). 5. 10. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver

    Författare :Ulrika Edvardsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :PPARalpha; PPARgamma; PPARgamma2; Wy14; 643; rosiglitazone; liver; hepatocytes; insulin; fatty acids; MTP; ADRP; lipid metabolism; apoB; triglycerides.;

    Sammanfattning : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation.
