  1. 16. Treatment of obstructive sleep apnea with a mandibular advancement device

    Författare :Marie E. Marklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Activator appliances; Advancement mandibular; Cephalometry; Long-term effect; Polysomnography; Sleep apnea syndromes; Snoring; Supine position;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, hypertension and an increased risk of early death.The aims of the present studies were to evaluate the short-term and longterm effects on sleep apnea and the tolerability of a one-piece, individually- designed mandibular advancement device. 2. 17. Outcomes and Implications of Nasal Measurements in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Författare :Hans Christian Hoel; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea OSA ; Respiratory system diagnostic technique; nasal obstruction; Sleep hypopnea; Rhinomanometry;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent disorder and symptoms of nasal obstruction are highly prevalent in OSA. Treatment of nasal obstruction in OSA patients has shown modest and variable outcomes in reducing the apnea hypopnea index (AHI), but significant improvements in other indicators, such as sleep quality and daytime sleepiness as well as reductions in arousals have been observed. 3. 18. Neuromuscular injuries and pharyngeal dysfunction in snorers and sleep apnea patients : a study on pathological changes in the human soft palate and its relationship with swallowing dysfunction

    Författare :Farhan Shah; Per Stål; Sture Forsgren; Diana Berggren; Eva Svanborg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Axons; BDNF; desmin; dystrophin; obstructive sleep apnea; OSA; pharyngeal function; muscle; myopathy; neuropathy; Schwann cells; swallowing dysfunction; upper airway; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; patologi; Pathology; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent progressive sleep disorder with serious negative health consequences. Although several risk factors such as obesity can make an individual vulnerable to develop OSA, the pathophysiological mechanism for the collapse of the upper airway is unclear. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Ventilation and Lung Volume During Sleep and in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Författare :Jonas Appelberg; Göran Hedenstierna; Christer Janson; Karl Franklin; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) appears to affect up to 5% of the population. The extent to what pulmonary function awake and during sleep relates to obstructive breathing and hypoxemia during sleep in these patients is unclear. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Sleep-disordered breathing in women : Associations with cardiovascular disease and the significance of sleep apnea during REM sleep

    Författare :Mirjam Ljunggren; Eva Lindberg; Christer Janson; Eva Svanborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; REM sleep; cardiovascular disease; heart failure; Lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but it is unclear which elements of SDB that are most harmful to the cardiovascular system and whether the associations observed in men also apply to women.Aim: To investigate associations between different aspects of SDB and cardiovascular disease in womenMethods and results: All four papers were based on participants in “Sleep and Health in Women” (SHE), a population-based cohort study of women.
