  1. 1. Familial thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections : studies on genotype and phenotype

    Författare :Matias Hannuksela; Bo Carlberg; Bengt Johansson; Eva-Lena Stattin; Anders Gottsäter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thoracic aorta; familial aortic aneurysm; familial aortic dissection; genetics; aortic stiffness;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections (TAAD) have a genetic component with an estimated 20-25% of the patients having a positive family history. An aneurysm often precedes a dissection. Acute aortic dissections are associated with high mortality and morbidity, even when operated on. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aortic coarctation : Physiological and model studies

    Författare :Jan Engvall; Dag Teien; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : In 22 patients, referred for the assessment of significant native- or re-coarctation, the systolic cuff blood pressure difference between arm and ankle at rest and after three different subrnaximal exercise tests and one maximal test was compared with invasive blood pressure. Reference values of cuff blood pressure were obtained from 19 healthy adult volunteers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stiffness and aneurysm of the aorta. Relations to vascular aging, hyperglycemia, and inflammation

    Författare :Soumia Taimour; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aortic stiffness; Hyperglycaemia; abdominal aortic aneurysm AAA ;

    Sammanfattning : A well-functioning arterial system for the transport of oxygen to the cells is essential for human health. The aorta has a key role for the provision of this physiological effect. Disturbances to aortic function can lead to majorsymptoms and even death due to ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). 4. 4. Arterial wall stiffness in man. On gender differences and abnormalities in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency

    Författare :Åsa Rydén Ahlgren; Malmö Klinisk fysiologi och nuklearmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex characteristics.; abdominal aortic aneurysm; arterial stiffness; alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency; ultrasonography; Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanical properties of major arteries may reflect early manifestations of vascular disease and are also of interest because they are important for cardiac work. Using echo-tracking sonography and blood pressure measurements, arterial stiffness and diameters were investigated in healthy individuals as well as in patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (alpha1-AT deficiency). 5. 5. Effects of physical exercise on coronary and peripheral vascular function. An integrative physiological study from rat to man

    Författare :Ulrika Hägg Samuelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; endothelial function; coronary flow velocity reserve; colour Doppler echocardiography; oxidative stress; gene expression; stiffness; ultrasound biomicroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exercise is beneficial for the cardiovascular health. Numerous epidemiological studies reveal that physical activity reduces the risk of cardiovascular related death. Nevertheless, the underlying vessel wall specific physiological and molecular mechanisms still remain incompletely understood. LÄS MER
