  1. 21. The nervous system of box jellyfish: A surprisingly complex system in a simple animal

    Författare :Linda Parkefelt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proliferating cell nuclear antigen; arginine vasotocin; RFamide; immunofluorescence; visual system; nervous system; Tripedalia cystophora; Cnidaria; box jellyfish;

    Sammanfattning : The four surprisingly complex visual sensory organs of cubomedusae, the rhopalia, contain each six eyes of four morphologically different types, two of which are camera-type eyes. This means that the evolutionary basal nervous system of cubomedusae must process the visual signals received from a total of 24 rhopalial eyes. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Mechanisms of immune escape in EBV associated malignancies : Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma

    Författare :Teresa Frisan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Epstein-Barr virus; tumor immune escape; antigen presentation; cytotoxic T lymphocytes;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the analysis of the mechanisms operating in the immune escape of two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated tumors: Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV positive HD tumor cells express at least 3 viral proteins: the EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)1, the latent membrane proteins (LMP)1 and LMP2A. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Molecular and cellular strategies to enhance efficacy of T cell-based cancer therapy

    Författare :Pascal Dammeyer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :β2-microglobulin; MHC class I antigen defects; immune escape; heal-inducible; amplifier vector; GM-CSF; tumor immunity; T lymphocytes;

    Sammanfattning : A combined approach of vaccination with β2-microglobulin (β2m)-deficient dendritic cells (DCs) and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) as a potent adjuvant may link cellular and molecular strategies to further enhance anti-tumor T-cell responses. T lymphocytes can mediate a potent anti-tumor immune response. LÄS MER

  4. 24. T-cell mediated control of Epstein-Barr virus infection : viral mechanisms of immune escape

    Författare :Jelena Vladmirovna Levitskaya; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Epstein-Barr virus; Cytotoxic T lymphocyte; CTL epitope; viral immunescape;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanisms regulating the immunogenicity of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV)-encoded CTL peptide epitopes and their contribution to the escape of virus infected cells from CTL-mediated immunosurveillance were the subject of these studies. It was demonstrated that two HLA A11-restricted CTL epitopes of EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)-4 (designated IVT and AVF) possessed different immunogenicity that appeared to be due to a rapid surface turnover of All molecules containing the AVF peptide. 5. 25. Separation and Further Characterization of Hematopoietic Cell Populations Based on Phenotypic and Biophysical Properties

    Författare :Josefina Dykes; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoiesis; Blood Group; ABO-system; Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation; Cell Separation;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are multipotent and possess self-renewal capacity. Thus, they can sustain a life-long hematopoiesis and are also capable of restoring the hematopoietic system when transplanted to a patient. LÄS MER
