  1. 16. Pharmacodynamic effects of antibiotics : studies on bacterial morphology, initial killing, postantibiotic effect and effecitive regrowth time

    Författare :Håkan Hanberger; Otto Cars; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmacodynamics of antibiotics deals with time course of drug activity and mechanisms of action of drugs on bacteria. In this thesis pharmacodynamic parameters have been studied after brief exposure of gram-positive bacteria to daptomycin, imipenem or vancomycin and after short exposure of gram-negative bacteria to amikacin, ampicillin, aztreonam, cefepime, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, imipenem, mecillinal,11, or piperacillin. 2. 17. Essays on antibiotics use: Nudges, preferences & welfare benefits

    Författare :Linnea Wickström Östervall; Jakob Svensson; Astri Muren; Kjetil Bjorvatn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; field experiment; nudge; reminder; common resources; antibiotics use; resistance; altruism; other-regarding preferences; time preferences; social security; temporary parental leave; natural experiment; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : The stock of effective antibiotics can be seen as a common resource. Depletion of this potentially renewable, but currently finite, resource through the development of resistance poses an important policy problem. Prudent use can delay the spread of resistance. It is hence interesting to study factors that affect use and overuse of antibiotics. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Antibiotic sensitivity and horizontal gene transfer in Escherichia coli - A genome-wide perspective

    Författare :Martin Palm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antibiotics; antibiotic resistance; Escherichia coli; heavy metals; bacterial conjugation; pangenome; sub-inhibitory;

    Sammanfattning : Since their discovery in the early 20th century, antibiotics have truly revolutionized human medicine. They have allowed us to treat diseases that were previously untreatable and have become a staple of modern medicine. However, along with the human use of antibiotics pathogens resistant to antibiotics emerged. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Type l diabetes in childhood and adolescence, environmental exposures and gut microbiota

    Författare :Mona-Lisa Wernroth; Tove Fall; Bodil Svennblad; Katja Fall; Catarina Almqvist; Mikael Knip; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 1 diabetes; gut microbiota; antibiotics; stress; dogs; mode of delivery; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental factors leading to disturbances in the gut microbiota might play an important role as triggers for, and/or contributing factors in, the development of type 1 diabetes (T1D). The overall aim of the research underlying this thesis was to study the influence of environmental factor exposure on the risk of T1D in childhood and adolescence, and gut microbiota composition in early childhood. 5. 20. Treatment of Acute Uncomplicated Colonic Diverticulitis

    Författare :Daniel Isacson; Abbas Chabok; Maziar NIkberg; Kennet Smedh; Fredrik Hjern; Wilhelm Graf; Caroline Nordenvall; Roland Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colonic diverticulitis; antibiotics; health-care cost; follow-up; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the clinical management of AUD with regard to the no-antibiotic policy and its long-term effect, treatment on an outpatient basis and the potential health-care cost savingsStudy I:  a retrospective study at Västmanlands Hospital that evaluated and confirmed the adherence to the no-antibiotic policy in patients with AUD and its safety regarding complications and recurrences. A total of 246 patients with acute diverticulitis were identified, of which 195 had computed tomography (CT) confirmed AUD. LÄS MER
