  1. 1. Tracing anthropogenic Technology Critical Elements using Environmental Forensics : Case studies at Kallholmsfjärden and the Bothnian Bay, northern Sweden

    Författare :Stacy Sutliff-Johansson; Anders Widerlund; Kristi Korkka-Niemi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Forensics; Technology Critical Elements; Sediment Contamination; Groundwater Contamination; Contaminant Tracing; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The rapidly changing landscape of today's technology industry has increased the number of electronic products being discarded. Society is always on the hunt for the latest product and newest technological advancement, thereby creating a constant influx of older model products into fast-growing waste streams. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Macroalgae in tropical seascapes : regulating factors and functions in the coastal ecosystem

    Författare :Gustaf Lilliesköld Sjöö; Max Troell; Nils Kautsky; Lena Kautsky; Alina Szmant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Macroalgae; Coral reefs; Nutrients; Herbivory; Ecological functions; East Africa; Regulating factors; Anthropogenic influence; Seaweed farming; Bioindicator; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Although macroalgae usually are inconspicuous on pristine coral reefs, they often thrive on reefs that are subjected to various types of anthropogenic disturbance. This thesis consists of five papers and investigates how biomass and composition of macroalgal communities on coral reefs are affected by regulating factors, such as nutrient availability, herbivory, substrate availability and hydrodynamic forces. 3. 3. The use of global data to uncover how humans shape flood and drought risk

    Författare :Sara Lindersson; Giuliano Di Baldassarre; Johanna Mård; Luigia Brandimarte; Brett Sanders; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; natural hazards; hydrological disasters; environmental geography; global geospatial data; international databases; disaster losses; disaster consequences; water management; dams and reservoirs; floodplains; hydrological drought; social vulnerability; economic inequality; Anthropocene; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; Earth Science with specialization in Environmental Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The human consequences of flood and drought disasters are widespread and detrimental. Large-scale studies, drawing on global geodata products and international databases, can systematically examine how anthropogenic megatrends shape disaster risk and test the generalisability of findings from other scientific methodologies. 4. 4. Coral reefs in a human-dominated environment : implications of altered disturbance regimes and reduced resilience

    Författare :Magnus Nyström; Terry Done; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Korallrev; Ekosystem i vatten; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coral reefs are facing an "Anthropocene " era where humans have advanced from a minor species with limited influence on coral reefs to a major source of disturbance. Disturbance arriving from human influences may not only interact with each other, but also with natural disturbance regimes, leading to synergistic effects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Particle emissions from residential wood and biodiesel combustion

    Författare :Robin Nyström; Christoffer Boman; Dan Boström; Markus Broström; Michael Strand; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Combustion; biomass; wood; biodiesel; particulate matter; emissions; aerosols; physicochemical properties; size distribution; PAH;

    Sammanfattning : Emissions from anthropogenic combustion sources, such as vehicles and biomass combustion, contribute significantly to ambient particulate matter (PM) both on a local and global scale. Exposure to ambient PM and air pollution in general is linked to a variety of different health effects and it has been estimated that as many as 2. LÄS MER
