2. Terpenes Emitted to Air from Forestry and the Forest Industry
Sammanfattning : A major environmental concern with respect to hydrocarbon emissions is the formation of phytotoxic photooxidants. The work reported in this thesis focusses on the poorly studied anthropogenic terpene emissions from the industrial use of softwood. LÄS MER
3. Batch Sorption Studies of Aqueous Cadmium and Lead from Contaminated Water onto Selected Biosorbents
Sammanfattning : Groundwater, wastewater, surface runoff and surface water samples from Lake Victoria basin, Uganda was assessed for trace metals contamination. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biosorbents from Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were investigated for removal of selected trace metals from contaminated water in batch studies. 4. Emissions of volatile organic compounds from wood
Sammanfattning : The central aim of this thesis is to support the efforts to counteract certain environmental problems caused by emissions of volatile organic compounds. The purpose of this work was (1) to develop a method to establish the amount of emitted substances from dryers, (2) to determine the effect of drying medium temperature and end moisture content of the processed material on emissions of monoterpenes and other hydrocarbons, (3) to examine the emissions of monoterpenes during production of pellets, and (4) to examine the natural emissions from forests with an eye to implications for modelling. 5. Microplastic Mitigation in Urban Stormwater : Assessing Horizontal-Flow Filters of Bark, Biochar and Sand as Remediation Strategies
Sammanfattning : Urban stormwater has been suggested as a significant vector through which microplastics (MPs) reach aquatic environments. Currently, only a small fraction of stormwater in Sweden undergoes any form of treatment. LÄS MER
