  1. 1. Quantitative Genetics and Genome Structure in a Wild Population: the Use of a Great Reed Warbler Pedigree

    Författare :Mikael Åkesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genome mapping ; AFLP; microsatellite; synteny; heterochiasmy; recombination; chicken; great reed warbler ; bird; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Animal ecology; trait correlation ; Djurekologi; animal model ; selection; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; heritability;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term studies of birds play an important role in the understanding of quantitative traits in natural populations. The relative ease by which individual birds can be monitored and caught in the wild enable us collect detailed information from individuals throughout their life time, sometimes from several generations in a population. 2. 2. Ontogeny and Population Biology of a Sex-Limited Colour Polymorphism

    Författare :Jessica Abbott; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; embryologi; ontogeni; animal morphology; embryology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Damselflies; Colour polymorphism; Development; Frequency-dependence; Morphology; growth animal ; ontogeny; Animal anatomy; Development biology; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; Population divergence; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This study has involved investigation of number of populations of the damselfly Ischnura elegans over several years, looking at frequency changes over time, morphological differences between the sexes and the morphs, differences in growth rate and development time, differences in fecundity between the morphs, and genetic differentiation between populations. 3. 3. Assessment of eosinophil degranulation in allergic diseases and experimental models

    Författare :Monika Malm-Erjefält; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood; histochemistry; cytochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; Haematology; cytoplasmic granules ; Hematologi; Respiratory system; extracellulära vätskor; Andningsorganen; toxikologi; farmaci; farmakognosi; Farmakologi; toxicology; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Klinisk biologi; Pharmacological sciences; Histology; cell separation ; mice; animal models ; biological marker ; transmission electron microscopy allergy; cell degranulation ; Clinical biology; extracellular fluids; eosinophils;

    Sammanfattning : In allergic disorders, the eosinophilic granulocytes migrate to affected tissues and release granule proteins with cytotoxic, immunoregulatory, and remodeling-promoting properties. Given that degranulation is reflected by a loss in eosinophil granule density of living cells, or by cell membrane rupture and release of intact granules, these morphological changes may represent a biomarker of the allergic disease. 4. 4. Influences of paratendinous innervation and non-neuronal substance P in tendinopathy : studies on human tendon tissue and an experimental model of Achilles tendinopathy

    Författare :Gustav Andersson; Patrik Danielson; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; David A. Hart; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; tendinopathy; tendinosis; paratenon; innervation; substance P; neuropeptides; neurokinin-1 receptor; Anatomy; Anatomi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Pain of the musculoskeletal system is one of the most common reasons for people seeking medical attention, and is also one of the major factors that prevent patients from working. Chronic tendon pain, tendinopathy, affects millions of workers world-wide, and the Achilles tendon is an important structure often afflicted by this condition. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evolution of eyes: Pax, gene duplications & morphology

    Författare :Karin Nordström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; animal morphology; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; Animal anatomy; tetraploidization; planula; phototransduction; pax; paired domain; mutagenesis; cnidaria; eye evolution;

    Sammanfattning : During the course of evolution animal complexity and diversity is generated. The last couple of years it has become increasingly clear that morphologically diverse animals share a great deal of their genomic contents, and it must be the expression of regulatory genes in new setting, rather than the generation of new genes, that are fundamental for the generation of diversity.
