  1. 21. Magnesium and the Insulin Resistance Syndrome

    Författare :Arvo Hänni; L Resnick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; magnesium; calcium; insuline resistance syndrome; hypertension; lipids; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance, defined as a state of reduced insulin-mediated glucose uptake in peripheral tissues, and disorders such as obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, have been found to be associated in the conglomerate of the insulin resistance syndrome. Some antihypertensive drugs have been shown to decrease insulin sensitivity further. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Angiotensin II Receptors in the Human Coronary Circulation and in Heart Failure

    Författare :Emil Pantev; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Heart Failure; Human Coronary Arteries; Angiotensin II; AT receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a potent vasoconstrictor that is implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension, heart failure and atherosclerosis. In this thesis, the efficacy and safety of Ang II receptor blockers (ARB) were evaluated. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Studies on the level of substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide in cerebrospinal fluid of pregnant women and patients with chronic pain and in rat brain after spinal cord injury : Special reference to analytical aspects of neuropeptides

    Författare :Zhurong Liu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Substance P; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; Radioimmunoassay; High performance liquidchromatography; Cerebrospinal fluid and chronic pain; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : Substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) are sensory peptides known to be involved innociception and inflammatory processes. It is well demonstrated that the two peptides can be released from spinal cord neurons during inflammation and chronic pain induced by peripheral nerve injury. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Nebulized corticosteroid in septic lung injury : An experimental study in pigs

    Författare :Sten Walther; Bo Risberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is occasionally complicated by the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Auto injury by immunocompetent cells are given a central role in the pathogenesis, but our understanding of the mechanisms remains fragmentary. Treatment in septic ARDS is mainly supportive, no causal therapy exists. Mortality is high at 50-70%. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Influence of genetics and mechanical properties on large arteries in man

    Författare :Rachel De Basso; Toste Länne; Martin Björck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Arterial pathology is the major contributor to cardiovascular diseases and mortality. The mechanical properties of arteries are independent factors for cardiovascular disease and mortality, where genetics influence the structure of the arterial wall, which may result in change in arterial stiffness.
