1. Angiopoietin-like protein 4 : an unfolding chaperone regulating lipoprotein lipase activity
Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the main enzyme hydrolyzing triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in plasma. Proteoglycan-bound LPL on the vascular endothelium represent the functional pool of active enzyme. LPL is regulated in a tissue specific manner according to metabolic demands. LÄS MER
2. Modulaton of gene expression in human aortic smooth muscle cells by Porphyromonas gingivalis : a possible association between periodontitis and atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Porphyromonas gingivalis is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, and anaerobic bacterium that is involved in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. P. gingivalis produces a variety of virulence factors including gingipains and fimbriae. LÄS MER
3. Pre-eclampsia – Possible to Predict? : A Biochemical and Epidemiological Study of Pre-eclampsia
Sammanfattning : Pre-eclampsia is a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. A predictor of pre-eclampsia would enable intervention, close surveillance and timely delivery, and thereby reduce the negative consequences of the disorder. LÄS MER
4. Biomolecule Functionalization of Diamond Surfaces for Implant Applications - A Theoretical Study
Sammanfattning : Diamond is a promising material with unique chemical properties. In this thesis, nano-scale diamond quantum size effects were investigated using several chemical property indicators. LÄS MER
5. The role of angiopoietin-like 4 in inflammation
Sammanfattning : Inflammation is a homeostatically fundamental feature of the host defence surveillance system made up of an army of sentinel cells that guard against foreign intrusion. At the onslaught of an attack, primary immune responders (macrophages and neutrophils) secrete a plethora of cytokines and chemokines that attract secondary responders (T and B cells) to the site of inflammation, to eliminate the intrusion and encourage tissue healing.
