6. Multiscale Modeling in Systems Biology : Methods and Perspectives
Sammanfattning : In the last decades, mathematical and computational models have become ubiquitous to the field of systems biology. Specifically, the multiscale nature of biological processes makes the design and simulation of such models challenging. LÄS MER
7. Diversity, dynamics and deficits : the role of social networks for the health of aging populations in Indonesia
Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis takes as a predicate that humans are social animals and as such, that their social networks and health are intrinsically connected. A guiding heuristic of this thesis was the Berkman model which conceptualizes how social networks impact health. LÄS MER
8. Network Based Tools and Indicators for Landscape Ecological Assessments, Planning, and Design
Sammanfattning : Land use change constitutes a primary driving force in shaping social-ecological systems world wide, and its effects reach far beyond the directly impacted areas. Graph based landscape ecological tools have become established as a promising way to efficiently explore and analyze the complex, spatial systems dynamics of ecological networks in physical landscapes. 9. Sentinel Node Biopsy for Breast Cancer : Aspects and evolution
Sammanfattning : Sentinel Node Biopsy (SNB) in clinical practice was pivotal to the shaping of modern diagnosis, staging and treatment of patients with breast cancer. The use of radioisotope (RI) and blue dye (BD) has led to high detection rates with low false negatives, but delivery-of-care limitations connected to these tracers as well as the need for methods addressing new clinical conundrums delineates the urge for new tracers with comparable performance, easier logistics and, ideally expanded implementations. 10. Transcriptional Silencing in the Imprinted Igf2-H19 Loci: The Mystique of Epigenetics
Sammanfattning : Genomic imprinting marks a subset of autosomal loci expressed in parent of origin-dependent monoallelic expression in a non-Mendelian fashion. To restore totipotency and to reset the imprint according to the sex of the individual, the mark must be erased during germline development. LÄS MER
