  2. 2. Aspects of Vitamin D : Prevalence of deficiency and impact on musculoskeletal parameters

    Författare :Anne Björk; Östen Ljunggren; Gunnar Johansson; Andreas Kindmark; Anna Spångeus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; CYP2R1; Vitamin D receptor Gene; Polymorphisms; Muscle Strength; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin D is central in calcium turnover, and adequate levels are important for skeletal health. It is not clear how large contributions from food and sunlight are in Swedish primary care patients, considering the low radiation of UVB in Sweden and fortification of some foods, and whether differences exist between patients of immigrant and Swedish origin. 3. 3. Interindividual Variability of Drug Transport Proteins : Focus on Intestinal Pgp (ABCB1) and BCRP (ABCG2)

    Författare :Gunilla Englund; Per Artursson; Håkan Melhus; Andreas Kindmark; Joseph W Polli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; membrane transport proteins; ATP-Binding Cassette Transporters; P-glycoprotein; Breast Cancer Resistance Protein; Interindividual variability; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : The appearance of adverse drug reactions is a common reason for hospitalization in Western countries. Research on underlying biological mechanisms for interindividual variability in drug response aims to better identify patients with exceptional genetic traits, disease conditions or risk of drug-drug interactions and thereby help to prevent adverse drug reactions. 4. 4. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes : The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    Författare :Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Vitamin A and Osteoporosis : Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Författare :Sara Johansson; Håkan Melhus; Andreas Kindmark; Monica Lind; Göran Toss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; vitamin A; bone; osteoporosis; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin A in high doses is severely toxic to the rat skeleton, and the active metabolite retinoic acid (RA) can induce bone resorption in vitro. An excessive dietary intake of vitamin A has been associated with reduced bone mineral density and an increased risk of hip fracture. LÄS MER
