Sammanfattning : The subject of this dissertation is the so-called concrete poetry that was written in Sweden during the 1960s and, to a small extent, in the 1950s, by Öyvind Fahlström, Jarl Hammarberg, Åke Hodell, Bengt Emil Johnson, and others. The study is focused on a discussion of the forms and the ways of writing that were explored, but it also gives an account of the aesthetic-historical context – of the expanded field of the arts in the 1960s, of the early avant-garde, of related forms of writing in earlier literature, such as pattern poetry. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to analyze how ancient Greek philosophy and literature – as it was mediated through Nietzsche – gained a vital function in the rise of early Swedish modernism and its later expressions. The turn to antiquity, within a modernism confined to the Swedish language, was not only intended as a breach in tradition, but above all to think anew, to transgress the conventions of (one’s) time. Sammanfattning : The aim of this dissertation is to understand the relation between a given literary work and the specific historical conditions under which it was written. Here, the conditions are those generated by World War II, the threats of Nazism, and the neutrality of Sweden, materialized as restrictions on the freedom of speech and press in Sweden during the war.
