  1. 11. Androgen controlled regulatory systems in prostate cancer : potential new therapeutic targets and prognostic markers

    Författare :Peter Hammarsten; Anders Bergh; Stina Häggström Rudolfsson; Pernilla Wikström; Sten Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; prostate cancer; angiogenesis; human biopsy; androgen ablation; castration; prognostic marker; prognostic factor; growth control; VEGF; vascular endothelial growth factor; EGFR; epidermal growth factor receptor; pEGFR; phosphorylated EGFR; phosphorylated epidermal growth factor receptor; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is by far the most common cancer among Swedish men. Some patients have an aggressive lethal disease, but the majority of affected men have long expected survival. Unfortunately, the diagnostic tools available are insufficient in predicting disease aggressiveness. Novel prognostic markers are therefore urgently needed. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Vascular endothelial growth factor in renal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Jan Jacobsen; Börje Ljungberg; Kjell Grankvist; Torgny Rasmuson; Anders Bergh; Peter Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGF; isoforms; quantitative RT-PCR; immunohistochemistry; tissue microarray; Western blot; stage; survival; renal cell carcinoma; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Angiogenesis is essential for tumour growth. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its isoforms were investigated in relation to the clinical course in a large number of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Examining the prostate stroma and vasculature : importance and potential as targets for therapy

    Författare :Anna Johansson; Anders Bergh; Arne Östman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; castration therapy; vasculature; stroma; the angiopoietins; the PDGF-receptors; mast cells; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Recent studies in cancer research have focused on the reciprocal interaction between cancer cells and their microenvironment. Tumour growth is angiogenesis dependent and the rate of angiogenesis correlates with a poor prognosis in many different cancers. LÄS MER

  4. 14. MicroRNA expression profiles in prostate cancer bone metastases : functional effects of microRNA-23c, -375, and -4328

    Författare :Helena Järemo; Pernilla Wikström; Maria Brattsand; Anders Bergh; Elin Thysell; Guido Jenster; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer bone metastases; microRNA; metastatic subtypes; extracellular vesicles; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Non-coding microRNAs (miRNAs) function as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression by interacting with messenger RNA. Dysregulation of miRNAs has many possible consequences, including tumor-suppressive or -promoting ones, and restoring or preventing the effects of miRNA alteration has therapeutic potential. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Modeling flow and sediment transport in water bodies and watersheds

    Författare :Muluneh Admass Mekonnen; Bijan Dargahi; Anders Wörman; Hans Bergh; Edward Buchak; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bed load transport model; ECOMSED; Hydrology; Hydrodynamics; Spectral Analysis; SWAT; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The research focus is on the various modeling aspects of flow and sediment transport in water bodies and watersheds. The interaction of flow with a mobile bed involves a complex process in which various turbulent scales characterized by coherent structures cause a chaotic sediment motion. LÄS MER
